Milkshape ShowTool texture issue

by Jonathan Noyola · in Artist Corner · 06/16/2010 (8:04 pm) · 11 replies

I have this model for a fried egg, I put it through UVMapper, made a texture, and loaded it into Milkshape, and it looks like this (which is what I want it to look like)
topjgames.webege.com/fried_egg1.bmp
Then I exported it using both the built in exporter and ms2dtsExporterPlus (they gave the same results), and when I opened it in Torque ShowToolPro it looks like this
topjgames.webege.com/fried_egg2.bmp
If anybody has any idea what's going on here, all help is greatly appreciated.

Are your texture width and height powers of 2?

Thanks for the quick response.
Yes, width and height are both 256

I'm not sure what could be wrong, then.

I'm happy to take a look at the model for you if you can send it to me (email is in my profile, just remove the NULL). I wrote the ms2dtsplus exporter and have a fair bit of experience with the DTS format.

Ok thanks, I just sent you an email

I think I'm having the same problem with another model.
I don't understand why this would be happening all of a sudden, I've made a ton of models before, and I don't think I'm doing anything differently.

I'm pretty sure it's not some bug that just appeared, because I reexported a model that I made before the problem came up, and it worked fine.

I did some more exporting and stuff that I don't think should have changed anything, and it's a bit better now.
The second model works fine now, so the problem is still with the egg.
The egg looks like the first picture (what I want it to look like), except the white part isn't white, it's that funny chrome thing that Torque does when there's not a texture.

I exported the model and it displays fine. Here's what I did:

1. opened egg.ms3d
2. imported egg.obj
3. assigned Material09 to Figure (the OBJ imported mesh)
4. deleted the 'white' and 'yolk' meshes that were already in the ms3d file
5. exported to DTS

Is that different to your workflow?

I suspect you still have the original (untextured) meshes in your exported DTS model which is why they do not appear correctly.

Thanks, I'll have to try that tomorrow.
Do you have to load the ms3d first? Because I've never done that before and it's always worked fine.
I'll tell you my results tomorrow, but it sounds like that should work.
Thanks,
Jon

No - you should just be able to import the OBJ file into a blank milkshape scene.

BTW - what is the version number shown in the ms2dts Export dialog?

It worked this time - I have no idea why, but thanks.
I'm using v2.8.3
