Max size for waterblocks? - LOGGED

Hi folks,
In our level we have a rather large waterblock and I have determined that this is causing issues with precipitation among other things.
My world building partner has fiddled a little and finds there seems to be a certain size after which the waterblock will cause precipitation to stop at the waterblocks height, as if it is doing a world wide collision volume that the water hits.
Is a large waterblock stopping precipitation at a certain height an issue with some setting in the precipitation or the waterblock? (Deleting the waterblock allows precipitation to work fine....as does reducing it's size considerably).
Cheers.
