Help. Ubuntu?

I'm new to using Linux. I'm using Ubuntu. I downloaded the Torque Game Engine SDK. Now, what the heck do I do to install it? I extracted the zip file, and see the Makefile, but how do you run the makefile?

I tried TGE under Ubuntu. Just unzip ( or whatever) the archive and open the terminal. Start TGE with ./torqueDemo.bin
