Torque 3D Indie vs. Other Game Engines

Hey Community, I'm young and thinking about game design and as I was researching I came across Torque... Torque is listed as $1000 but if you select BINARY ONLY it goes down to $100!!! A great price for me!!
But as I'm going through Forums it seems like the Source code is really needed...
What is the Source code do?
Should I find a cheaper engine?

A very large amount of development may be accomplished with the Binary version and clever script programing. If you are just starting out, the Binary version is a great way to learn what more work might be necessary to accomplish your game design goals. All of the knowledge you invest into the Binary version is applicable to the PRO version of T3D, also your script and artwork are fully compatible with the PRO version.

If you do not KNOW if you need the Source, I would think you probably do not need it(yet). A very large amount of development may be accomplished with the Binary version and clever script programing. Thanks guys. The community for this engine is also great. I'll probably end up getting the Binary version

Also, what does the Pro version do/have that the Indie doesn't... I know it includes Source Code but I'm not exactly sure what that means.... I'm new

Pro owners get access to the source code and alphas/betas. When we refer to source code we mean the C++ portion of the engine. With that you can expand the engine further with custom features or integrate other third party APIs.

So I can't get the add-ons (tools, art packs) to the game engine? If so, how come the add-ons have "indie" price??

You may still purchase 3rd party extensions, as long as they do not require source code editing(for such you require the PRO T3D).

Where do you get "So I can't get the add-ons" from? You may still purchase 3rd party extensions, as long as they do not require source code editing(for such you require the PRO T3D).
