Flat shading, no normals or other materials loading

Hello, using the Torque3d demo and using collada to transfer between this program and max.

i've tried it with the oddly extruded rectangle on the left and it's taking the normal maps i've made for the player character seen on the right. problem is, the character on the right is, well, flat and grey. no lights bouncing off it and the normals aren't loading.

anyone ever experience something like this? how did you manage to get through it?

both are editable meshes in max.

oi, i have a major case of the dumb today. emissive was toggled. carry on, nothing to see here.
