Well, I have been saving up some money to buy the "Torque Game Engine". Now, this "Cipher Game Engine" comes out....I want the better buy. I know their both $100. So, in your OPINION....which is better?? I need to know, I only want the BEST:D

@John, Hey dont get stuck in that race like I almost did. A big thing that slowed me down from going ahead and buying torque was I kept looking at other engines.

FastGraph 5.0
Power Render
FreeSpace (Free)
Parsec3D (Free)
Dark Basic Pro
Blizt Basic

The time I spent worrying about which is the best could have been time I spent learning how to code. I sample all of them but always find myself floating back to Torque. So now that I have purchase it I can dedicate my brain power to learning it.

As a Artist turn newb programmer I am learning the scripting lanuage first. Without realizing it I did dabble a little in a script like lanuage Heh ( I wrote macros for my AC character..Blab Blab yeah I said it I wrote some macros and I didnt realize that the scripting lanuage is a lot like AC Tool Script Heh)

Anyway you wont be disappointed and by the time Torque2 come out we want notice because of all the great games were putting out with Torque 1. :)

(And while Torque2 won't be compatible with Torque1, I imagine that a lot of internals will be similar... so time spent learning Torque1 won't be wasted... not that I'm making any promises ;)

@Johnny-Ya, I am in the same hole you were in:( I found myself wondering around tryin to find "the best" engine available....thus doing so causes me to not understand coding fully (im a noob when it comes to C++:P) I really like Torque because of the low cost:D And, as a person that values money as a responsiblity.........."wasting" money is not a option.

I will purchase Torque, I can see that this is a good envestment;)

@Ben-When Torque 2 does come out, how much is this gonna be (if you know..) Will it be available for Indies (low budget ones)...............

Thank you for your time,

It'll probably be awhile before torque2 is out... I'm still waiting for v1.2.0

Didnt it take like 20 guys a year or two to make the v12 engine? Now its just 3 guys. I'm sure they will reuse a lot of torque1, but still, I'm not expecting t2 for at least a year or two, the last I heard about this (about 2 months ago I think) they were still just talking about the design and planning, so no actual work had even started

Well, hopefully they'll take an "if it ain't broke, don't fix it approach." I mean, the networking doesn't seem to need a total rewrite, not do many other things in Torque.

I agree, all torque really needs is an update of the rendering and maybe some extra features would be cool, but yeah, a total engine rewrite isnt really necessary

3 guys and 100 interns :P

There may have been 20 guys working on Tribes2, but there would have only been 3 to 5 working on the engine itself.
