DAZ 3D Models available for Game Developers

by DAZ-Pro · in General Discussion · 04/19/2010 (3:46 pm) · 4 replies

A while back DAZ 3D solicited feedback from this community regarding making its Models and content available to Game developers.
Based on that input and others, DAZ 3D dedicated a site specifically to game developers. developer.daz3d.com

Where all of the content can be purchased with a license allowing it to be distributed in games, virtual worlds, and simulations.
Additional tools that will decimate the high poly models and scale the high res textures down to levels acceptable for games will also soon be available.

DAZ 3D wants to make sure that the Torque engine(s) are well supported and input from developers who have worked with DAZ 3D content in the past is welcome.

I have found the Daz--fbxDAE export to not export animations?! Mesh and rigs are fine, but no keyframe data? The Daz3D DAE format...well, doesn't combine same named rig nodes...so you end up with several rigs inside the mesh, not what you need...

I end up having to export to FBX[which is very stable] and do some extra work outside Daz3D.

I'm getting ready to look at the beta soon with the new tools, I'll report back then!

Rex,

You would have to "bake" the animations to the DAZ Studio keyframe before you export to include the animations with the COLLADA export.

Also, DO check out the latest beta which has the "merge skeletons" option to combine same named rig nodes.
Make sure you choose DAZ COLLADA from the export menu and then select the "standard" tab.

Not using the beta pack yet, I've baked the keyframes from the AnimateLite blocks before, but it seemed as though I/we could never get that format of DAE to contain animation data...certainly will be trying more soon, as I said. A lot of things are finishing up and this project will take priority!

Yes, the new beta with all the tools rolled into the UI should be a bit better than 'Links' which did do the merging pretty well, but didn't have enough 'tiles' for what we needed.

Thanks for the update, :)!
