This is pretty insane, someone went and pretty much make Quake3 out of Quake2 ... QBism ... crazy. The project was recently fused with QFusion for network aware bot support.
List of features:
- Q3A maps support
- Q3A shaders support
- Q3A cinematics support
- Several model formats: md2, md3, dpm
- Full stereo sound support
- Clipped decals
- Curves collision detection
- User Iterface in separate .dll (.so) module
- Volumetic fog
- Lens flares
- Portals and mirrors
- Stencil shadows
- Clientside HUD's
- Skeletal animation
- Support for large maps
- Linux port
It works completely as advertised, wacky.

The shots on their site, with that user map... don't quite do it justice. It loads all the Q3A maps, shaders are nuts on.

This is not Quake3 (the Q2 machine gun is a dead giveaway) ... it's QBism... wow, huh? It's fully playable, has bots, etc...
Now remember, QBism is based on GPL Quake2... the Quake3 level processing stuff hasn't been GPL'd, well yet... Once it has, I'd say map2dif is in line for an upgrade :)
EDIT: Credit where credit is due: http://hkitchen.quakesrc.org ... QBism uses the QFusion codebase by Victor Luchits for much of it's goodness.

This little sucker is really hot, and a lot of fun. I shot some video of it, you can watch it here. The video is 16 megs, I would save the file out instead of just clicking on it. I encoded the video using DivX. This is not Quake3 (the Q2 machine gun is a dead giveaway) ... it's QBism... wow, huh? It's fully playable, has bots, etc...
