Trees? And of course, water...
by Max C. · in General Discussion · 06/28/2003 (9:10 pm) · 44 replies
Two things: does anyone have some good in-game trees they'd let me use, and/or does anyone know of any good sites that provide tutorials/models of trees..?
And second: Does anyone have a good water texture?! The water in Torque...it just doesn't do anything for me.. Too blue, and too unlike water.. Thanks for your help,
Max

The first time I asked, it was an honest question. I seriously was curious as to why you would not choose our product. We always seek to improve upon what we are doing and feedback is important to the process.
The second time I posted was a direct response to Xaivers question.
The third time ws to respond to one of your comments that you have a Mac, and I wanted to make sure that you (and ohters who might read this post) were aware that we were willing to work with anyone who did not have a windows machgine to run the insaller.
I am sorry if you did not think I was trying to help.
Our packs provide everything you ask for, and I was curious as to why you would choose to not consider them.
My intent was to help, but I understand that you do not see it this way.
Again, I wish you luck in your search for models and textures, I am sure that your many new firends will be glad to assist you.

I apologize for over reacting, I did misread the post between you and Xavier to some degree. However, members like Badguy will get no such apology, as they have shown they do what they do to every possible person they think they can get away with. I have been more then appalled as to what Badguy has said to users seeking help on more then one occasion..
But, Joe, you have proven your good intent, I hope you can excuse me for misunderstanding your intentions.. I'm very sorry,
Max

@Joe: I really appreciate your civility, to be quite honest I had consider them and even e-mailed BraveTree to ask why Windows only, and if I could get them unstuffed before purchase.. The answer I got was absolutely not, they [BraveTree]said I would need a Windows even if I could get them unsstuffed, I didn't see why but I backed off the idea after that... I appreciate your concern, and perhaps we can work something out.I apologize for over reacting, I did misread the post between you and Xavier to some degree. As for the water texture I'm not sure. There are no content packs or anything with them. Have you tried searching Google?
06/29/2003 (2:09 pm)
I think you should buy the content pack.. they are nice trees, very pro quality. If you find some trees on a free site they arent gonna compare, and well you could use the tree in the TGE demo if you don't care about quality. As for the water texture I'm not sure. There are no content packs or anything with them. Have you tried searching Google?

We can't give them to you unstuffed before purchase. In order to do this, we would have to have you purchase, and then work something out where we confirm your order and then get you the files.
The problem with the mac is making sure that there is a valid file format that can be read in. As we don't have any 3d software on the mac, we can't really test to make sure it would work and what you get works as it should.
In the future, we are hoping that we will be able to extend the content packs to include more supported formats, but we want to make sure that the product is solid for whatever application we choose to support.
I understand where you are coming from much better now. For us, it is a question of not being able to devote a great deal of resources to finding out what file format will work for you to import, and for you it is an issue of not knowing if your purchase will give you anything but a pile of useless polygons in some wack-ass intermediate format that we can't test.
If you can let us know what file format you need, I can look and see if there is something that can be done. I am not sure which app you are using, so I am not sure if it even is possible, and if it is not, this would certainly be a good reason to look elsewhere.
We are aware of the 'mac' issues, and hope to find a good solution at some point in the future.

as we can all see..
this guy is not the smartest cookie on the shelf.
he seems to have a hard time understanding simple concepts.
I did my best to provide information to him.
with the exception of one frustrated comment
I believe I was quite friendly.
Still he cannot figure out how to use the simple program.
after i've funneled so much information into that thread.
and he still firmly believe he has a clue what he is talking about.
I suggest you take anything he says with a large grain of salt.
anyhow ..
I wash my hands of his childish thoughts actions and comments.

Sorry this guy is being such a dick to you badguy, but the regulars here all know you and how great you are. Trust me, his insulting posts made me think less of him, not you ;)

Quote:@Badguy: Good. :D You've made my day, you are the most incompetent person I have ever met, like I said before, you post a lot but you know very little about what you post. For some reason you seem to get mad at people who want real help, you try to start flame wars, and you flat out harass people. Good bye, with luck I will never see your posts again. :)

@ Joe: Thank you much for your concern! I am using Cinema 4D XL (Release 8, .c4d), and I also had to purchase a copy of Lightwave inorder to export my sprites... Also, I can import .3sd into Cinema, but all texture data is lost at that point... I'm very sorry for not getting back to you sooner, I had two very busy days. ;) If I can provide anymore info please let me know,

Yes, all UV data is lost. I have to manually load any texture files and re-apply them to the object..

Yes, it's an importation problem I believe... It really does get to be a problem, almost everyone uses .3sd.. The one thing I can't import is .max.Max

The basic process is to build a truck model and then use a bunch of fairly large polygons for the leaves. Sorting of the transparent polygons can be an issue, so the best advice is to not overlap the branch polygons and make the texture for the branches fairly open so the sorting problems are not that noticable.

Yikes. Well, in that case, I don't recommend getting the content packs. Sounds like you would be redoing most of the model from scratch. Thanks for your help Joe.. How should I go about making the leaf textures? It would seem on your fir that the greens are all one to two polys a piece...is that right? A single flat plane modeled in the general foliage shape of a fir? Thanks,Max

Thanks again,

Any chance I could see your texture you used for your foliage..? This is part of my problem, I'm not sure how to make the texture, how to lay it out, and how to start..Thanks again,
Max
