Change of plans and platforms

Hello,

I´ve been working on a puzzle game for iPhone for a while but I´ve now decided to make the game for PC and MAC instead.

I don´t have a clue how to release the game for those platforms and was hoping someone here can help me. As said before it´s a puzzle which you can choose to play in HD with some nice effects. It´s going to be fairly cheap around €10 and I want it downloadable only. So I was thinking of maybe releasing it via Steam. Does anyone have an experience with this and is there certain requirements to get it released there? Do I need certification or certain requirements from Microsoft and Apple to release it for Windows and Mac?

As you can see I´m quite confused as I´ve been so heavily focused on the iPhone platform and was hoping someone can point me in the right direction!

Cheers!

I'm not much of a Mac man myself. But Windows is an open development platform. You don't need permission from MS to release product under Windows.

Never released anything with Steam...so I can't really help you there.

As for what platform to use to help build your product. Torque Game Builder is the current 2D engine for PC games here at GG. There is an iPhone version of the product as well which should facilitate the port of your product to the Mac.

That's about the best advice I can offer...I'm more of a console game developer myself...so my target platform is the Xbox 360. I don't currently have any plans to deploy my product to Windows or any other platform for that matter.

Good luck!

Looking at the products you own, you're pretty much set (I don't know about Steam either but I imagine their site has the requirements set forth).

Open your project in TGB and choose File, Build, Windows. On my Windows machine, when I choose Mac, the application doesn't run on a Mac. If I copy the project, open it in TGB on a Mac and choose to build for a Mac it works perfectly.

Then just get some web hosting and distro it yourself. Look at ActionSoft games for a great example of how to self promote and distribute a game.
