RTS/TBS particles

Hey all,
We're creating an RTS/Turn Based hybrid game for a school capstone project and we need to get some effects in to show the ships attacking each other. Things like laser blasts and particle cannons. I was wondering if you wouldn't mind sharing some techniques with us as far as creating those effects, getting them to hit the ship targeted, then create an explosion effect at the strike point.

Guess not. In doing a search, it seems that there are an alarming amount of unanswered threads pertaining to particles. Can someone from GG reply with some help on utilizing the particle creator, and how to fit different types of particles into a game. The request above is just one example; muzzle blasts, rocket explosions, water splashes, bubbles, spell casting, resurrection, and many other effects can be used as examples. I think that such a nice system needs to be better explained to help the overall visual quality of all of our games.Thanks.
