Unruly scrum crowd?

Is it my imagination or were the scrum games much more fun a month ago? It seems like everyone playing now on scrum plays battlemode at the same time. It is so much less fun when people feel the need to shoot everyone even if they are nowhere near the scrum. It started with a couple people here and there and now it just isn't fun anymore. It is a pity because it was such a blast! Is there anything to be done? I hate to just let the game go because of people seeming to be pissed off all the time screaming REVENGE!

All is fair in love and war... well not really. If you kill a lotta innocent people then you get nailed with war crimes later (especially if your side lost) then go to jail. Actually, now that I think about it, that is fair. Nevermind.

I wouldn't mind that, although I have had times where someone is winning thus I shoot them up a little so if they get to the scrum ball before me, I can take 'em down. All is fair in love and war... well not really. Really, those kids don't know how fun the game can be playing with a bit of commeraderie. Of course people normally shoot each other. If someone is in front of me and were both going for the scrum he's in trouble. But here is a problem:
"Hey can we play for the scrum instead of shooting each other"
"Shut up punk! Your mother was good last night blah blah blah"

LOL sounds like you have met the 11 year old that was giving Tank Dork a hard time the other night. Too bad the only way to filter them out is with passwords, some of the best games I have played in were with people I have never seen before. Start passing emails around so no one gets left behind. hatter

However I agree the "battlemode" people are an annoying trend. I also barely play at all these days, because of that. it's just non-fun to be shot at constantly when you are trying to play ... the game in progress.

Shooting to damage is fair game, in fact its a very viable tactic. If some nasty spoony or anyone passes by on the way to scrum, well...However I agree the "battlemode" people are an annoying trend. "Scrum League of Extraordinary Gentlemen"!
Don't know which are worse: the shooters, campers or campers that shoot.
But I'll play against any type of player, as long as I get to play...

I'd be interested in a dedicated server with a password for our "Scrum League of Extraordinary Gentlemen"!

If this password play is a viable option I would like to keep the ball rolling here. Is it a good idea to exclude people? I am concerned about putting on airs and not letting others into the "club" but I'm also tired of all of the behavior listed above. What do you say guys?

Things took a turn for the better last night, as az and z and myself (and a small batch of foils) went toe to toe to toe in a fun round or 5. maybe it was just a random spike of lame activity. things look better. im forgetting this english thing.

However, this doesnt give any rational explanation as to why some pre-pubescent kids get so much enjoyment about entering the scrum games and spouting of vulgar abuse all the time. Some simple "/ignore (nickname)" or "/kick (nickname)" kind of text input (using the chat interface) might help on that side of things.
I'll also agree with Tally. Indeed, there were some nice fun 'clean' games played last night and it was highly enjoyable.

I must admit that several weeks ago, I was getting really annoyed by the battlemoders in scrum. However, I think this is mostly due to the high popularity of scrum games, and all those battlemoders or newbies go into a scrum game simply because there are people there to shoot instead of just shooting up the bots. However, this doesnt give any rational explanation as to why some pre-pubescent kids get so much enjoyment about entering the scrum games and spouting of vulgar abuse all the time. That said, the idiots who feel they must debate what they were doing to my mom last night are annoying, but mostly I ignore them. After all, I don't think my mom notices them either.
As for campers, the version we have here are called 'sitting ducks' in every other first person shooter I've played... They are out in the open and they are standing still, not to mention you kow exactly where they are! I think I'll try some artillery style play and see how that works out.

So to sum up, the copmplaints are about the shooting part of a drive & shoot game, right? :P It is a game involving tanks after all. That said, the idiots who feel they must debate what they were doing to my mom last night are annoying, but mostly I ignore them. It's not that simple and that's a little naive. If a 'battlemoder' decides to 'pick on' someone playing scrum (regardless of whether that person has the srum or not or if he's trying to chase down the person with the scrum) it's not only annoying but puts that person at a disadvantage. That person then either has to take some time out from the frantic pace of the game to deal with the relentless pursuant, or to try and evade them whilst still chasing down the scrum carrier. Either way, its far less enjoyable to him (as he's constantly being interupted by the 'battlemoder') and for everyone else who wanted a fair game of scrum where everyone was playing on equal terms.
As for the abusive chat, yes you *can* ignore it, however most people tend to read whatever chat that's there as it might just as well be someone trying to chat to them. I also know that there is a child safe filter though I've never even looked at what that does, as I dont mind the occasional profanity in amongst normal chat from the other players. However, one thing that is highly annoying, is when some idiot thinks it's funny to paste the same abusive (or even non-abusive for that matter) comments into the chat box over and over again, flooding the chat area. Not only is it annoying and distracting to see it constantly flashing at the bottom of the screen, but it also disrupts any normal chat that the players are trying to have.

Hehe, as Azazel witnessed, I ran into an odd variant of a battlemoder last night. I'll call him a "crusader." He was somehow convinced that I was camping, whatever that means in a game that involves, in part, defending the goal from the other players. He then made a point of ignoring the flag and harrassing me in order to show me the error of my ways. I kept my cool and continued playing for goals rather than responding in kind (though I did continue to try to reason with him, I must confess). Once he actually saw me playing, he came to realize I was using a variety of tactics, not just sitting in the goal and hoping for the best, and he then became convinced that he had "converted" me. Kind of a lose/lose situation. :)Gromit

P.S. Gromit, are you refering to your loooong moral discussion with camperkiller? How on earth do you argue and score at the same time?

I want to put in a word for us kids. We don't all use profanity, and we don't all "battlemode". I know I have been trying to play more actual battlemode games, and take revenge only if someone battlemodes me first, for no reason. Not all kids are obnoxious in the ways you discussed, and keep in mind that some may just be putting on a tough guy front for all you looming adults :-] . Tally Ho, starting a 13 and older club is pointless, and you know it. For many, lying about one's age comes no harder than profanity. Please don't try to exclude people by age. I'm willing to bet that there are plenty of obnoxious adults and that you couldn't tell that i am just a kid.Any info on the weird new bot names is appreciated, what happened to good old Hum, Gul, and Ri??

1/ non-team, non-demo servers. is that a good idea? im not sure now, because seeing the mosquito-like lights zip by me really made me want to register. maybe the servers could be blind to demo'ers, but all servers could be seen by registered players, giving US the option.
2/ Read, *, and tell me where i said anything about starting a club, especially one with age-based discrimination. Putz-based discrimination though, that we can talk about :)...
I'm 24, not 42.

I think there is a certain maturation that comes from playing for a while. At first people tend to blast away ,then they refine their skills. I do wish there could be non demo areas to go and play and not deal with the camping out and goal congestion that occurs with the slower demo players...Baba
Tally Ho
The passage of time, the game reaches a larger audience, thus bringing a greater percentage of yutzes. i check these boards more than i play now; i hear what you're saying. maybe we need a dedicated over 12 server. mild humor intended.
