.dds normal maps coming in grey scale

has anyone had an issue when creating normal maps using DXT5nm .dds compression normal maps turn grey scale when re opening them in photoshop ? Im not 100% sure if my settings for the nvidia filter are correct for creating .dds normal maps but from what i see I dont think I am doing anything wrong. Can someone give me some sort of input on what I could possibly be doing wrong ?

hmm. I am not sure why I missed seeing your last thread John as I would have helped you when you posted that thread. Must be due to this site's issue of the 1.5 page of hidden doom!


You shouldn't use the dxt5nm option for this. Create your normal map and then use regular dxt compression, dx1/dx3/dx5.
If your normal map doe not look correct in game, you may need to 'swizzle'!
