keyboard orientation - landscape vs portrait

Back for more fun with the apple keyboard. :)

Our game is landscape oriented, but at the high score save point in the game when we launch the standard Apple iPhone keyboard it comes up as portrait oriented (iTGB 1.3).

This only happens the first time the game is launched. The second time it comes up in landscape like it's supposed to.

Any ideas on what settings are getting saved and then used the second time that aren't happening the first time?

Or is there some way to control the iPhone keyboard panel better, at least the view and text controls we found in the engine's code and rotate them?

I worked in learning simulations, then spent a few years working at Apple. I started to think about creating games for the iPhone and left to do that last summer. Our first game is coming out this summer.
