Resources and Add-ons for T3D pro question
by Aaron Baker · in Torque 3D Professional · 03/29/2010 (2:26 pm) · 6 replies
I'm planning to upgrade to the Pro edition in order to gain the flexibility I need to develop the ideas I have. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to what resources and add-ons are the best value. I am on a very limited budget and hate to spend cash where I didn't really need it. Any opinions or suggestions are welcome.

www.torquepowered.com/products/sticksandtwigs
It is by far the best addon pack I have ever bought for Torque.

Well I would highly suggest that if you're making a game that needs trees and other ground cover, you should get the Sticks and Twigs Pack here:www.torquepowered.com/products/sticksandtwigs

Overall I'm thinking of a Small Scale RPG(SSRPG) or at the least a single player RPG with multiplayer elements. Genre... honestly I have a fondness for fantasy games but I am thinking of making a racing game as my first big project. So, a racing rpg with car modifications, and obviously racing skills and such. "Death Race' style is the best way I could describe it. If you recall the pen and paper game 'Car Wars' from Steve Jackson Games you will get a decent idea of what I am aiming for as a racing game. I am a piss poor 3d artist and a barely passable 2d artist so I will be purchasing models as I can for the project.
A little on myself:
I've been messing with computers since the early 80's LOL.. but I never actually started trying to do programming until about a year ago when I decided that I needed to find a second career since my primary one (building contractor) went belly up in the housing crash. As you can imagine I have plenty of time to use up. I have self taught myself what I know so I may miss the obvious :O Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Making an RPG ? Get AFX ! Its meant more for normal RPGs, but there are still tons of stuff you could use, such as effects, selectrons etc

AFX sounds great. I have been thinking of picking up either AFX or GMK.. or possibly both. They each appear to have a good mix of implemented tools. I have seen that there are issues with getting both kits to work well with each other... Haven't found anything new on that front.
I am new to the Torque engine so I haven't got a good handle on what community resources are truly out there. Are there any 'must have' resources I need to know about?

Anyway... I picked up AFX and I'm loving it already. Definitely makes me want to do that fantasy game instead of a racing game ;)
