Problem playing game in TGB demo on Snow Leopard

I have downloaded the TGB demo for Mac and seem to have no problems installing and then using the game engine. However, when I try to play from within the engine I get the following error:

Game Startup Error

''Initialize Project' Function Could Not Be Found,
this could indicate a bad or corrupt common directory for your game.'

I also am unable to uninstall TGB as I get this error:

"You can't open the application uninstall because it is not supported on this type of Mac."

I am running TGB 1.7.4 (demo version) and Mac OSX 10.6.2. I am not having this trouble on my windows machine where I have also downloaded a demo.

I wanted to try reinstalling the software but the non-functioning uninstaller has me hesitant about that. Also, I am having this trouble with the shooter demo as well as in a new project in which I have only added one png file.
