platformer kit, how do you get it to work?

hi!
im new here and am an artist just for fun seeing if i can make a game...
so i bought the platformer kit thinking what a great way to see how this program works..

and i cant get it to work... when i open what seems to be the project file and run the game..
nothing works.. cant control the character or anything...

and the documentation... especially considering its basically a paid for tutorial..
is almost entirely useless for me...

sorry dont mean to be cranky... but any help would be cool!
