terrain difficulties

Since 1.1 beta was released this issue has two parts. In 1.1 alpha, when I open any level the terrain textures are not "applied" and a blue splotchy tint is painted over all terrain textures. When I apply any terrain texture the blue vanishes- until I restart the level.
In 1.1 beta the same effect happens but, in addition, when I open the World Editor some texture gets painted over the terrain in like fashion but higher opacity, and all terrain detail textures vanish. All this gets straight when I re-apply any terrain material- until I restart the level.
It's not my level as I just tried the blank level demo with like results.
Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

I'm using WinXP with a duo core 3GH CPU and a Radeon 3800 video card (unfortunately). Advanced lighting and post processing is turned on. And to my knowledge my drivers are the latest, but AMD makes that as clear as mud!

A lot of us are experiencing the same issue you are having in beta 1 , so its a bug (the team uses ati and nvidia same thing). As far as the issue you are having in alpha, i never ran into that when we were working from that build. perhaps it could be a texture format issue, not sure, hope you can find the solution. all my terrain issues started in beta 1.

Ok then I can stop hunting for that one but the other continues...
But I would like to know how Torque renders the terrain before and after the first terrain material is applied.
Anyway, I'm thinking about upgrading to a Radeon 5870 card. Do you know anything about this bug relative to a 5870?
And thanks for responding.

I have a 5750 and I am not having the issues you mentioned (as Stadi I do have the disappearing bit if you apply the video settings). The only thing I caution about the 5xxx series is the drivers. The last one (Feb) seems to be fairly solid now, but they weren't all that great when they initially came out. I decided to go with a more midrange card because I don't really want something too powerful when developing. Also, the current ati cards are a bit over priced because they are the only DX11 cards on the market.
