Ground Cover and T3D Binary funkiness - RESOLVED

by Irvin Bayless · in Torque 3D Professional · 02/14/2010 (6:32 pm) · 7 replies

I did a search through the forums and didn't find anything on this so I'm hoping it's not already been covered.

In any event, I have T3D 1.0.1 binary version. I am following along in the official documentation and am trying to add some ground cover. Unfortunately,it doesn't appear to be working very well for me.

When I go to add a Ground Cover object to my mission, the official docs say that a dialog box should pop up with the following fields: Object Name, Material Name and Shape File. When I try to add a Ground Cover object in the World Editor I only get the Object Name field.

That being said, when I do add in a Ground Cover object, there is no Material property in the Ground Cover objects properties. The only one I see that is close is the billboardTexture property, but that only allows me to add in a .png file. Even when I add in a .png file, nothing seems to show up.

I also noticed that the online documentation includes a tutorial on ground cover but the one I downloaded from http://docs.garagegames.com/t3d/official/T3D_Official_Docs_Offline.zip does not. Is the feature possibly bugged?

In any event, if anyone can provide any assistance it would be sorely appreciated.

The ground cover has had a lot of work done to it since 1.0.1 from what I can tell(I only just used it again today after a long time of not touching it), and the online documentation would be for 1.1 unless I'm mistaken. Prior to their fix-ups the ground cover object was rather hard to use. If I remember correctly 1.0.1 only allowed for billboards so that's why you only get the option to load image files, and then you have to set what layer it should render on.

Ahhh! Thank you so much kind sir. After reading your post and screwing around a bit, I got it figured out. Thank you again.

Does anyone have any clue if/when a 1.1 binary version would be available for download?

ETA 1.1Release: When the bugs have been ironed out!

The employee blog did say it'd be a two part beta, with beta2 available in "around a month", so give it another month on top of that as a rough estimate.

So don't hold your breath, if you can do stuff for your project now then do, don't wait.

Irvin, do you mind sharing what you figured out? I'm having some problems getting Ground Cover to work in 1.0.1.

    Tom,

I've sinced moved on to using another Engine (Unity 3d). But I still fool about with Torque. Let me take a gander about and see what I did to get that stuff working. Give me a few days though, I work for the military and am in a essentially gaussian sphere for 24 hour ops for the next few days.
