Perfect joke fodder quote!

Teenage Boy: "Mom, Dad, I gotta tell you something ..."
Father: "You do and it's Christian Military Academy for you, Sonny!"

Quote:People talk about the day the "soda is no longer free." It's an apt anecdote.

I had absolutely no idea that paying for soda was such a huge deal in the industry...

Seriously though, he gave a classy interview- no bashing or anything. I wish him the best. I got the chance to talk with him at a few conferences and he's a good guy :)

I choked when I read that, because we say the same thing here.

I think it's bound to happen to every company (not saying it has happened at GG), and I've seen those kinds of shifts myself in other industries, limited as they are to those extents. But that quote does make for a good joke :)

Come on guys, it's an anecdote...

I've been through the small company to big corporation transition twice now and change can really suck. If you are the type of person that is motivated by the uphill battle and the something new excitement of a startup, corporate culture just won't cut it.

I've noticed a bit of the indie edge gone from garage games... ahem.. Torque Powered over the last year. It's not important to me because I honestly think their product is better off for it but I'm not sporting a TP t-shirt to the next Pumping Station 1 meeting. :)

@Patrick
Actually the TP t-shirt says GarageGames.com on the back ....

*cough* more free t-shirts to rectify this *cough*
;)

uhhh ... thread derailed ...

yeah I totally agree I'm the same way.

I think Brett brought a lot to GG "not calling it TP, will call it GG till they shut the doors" anyway I was sad to see him go. Will be interesting to see where we are this time next year.

@James - Forgive me if I misread your statement in quotes, but Brett supported the drive and decision to help sunset the GarageGames name and move to TorquePowered.com ASAP. Just want to make sure that is clear.

Ahhh so he put the final nail in the coffin before he left! :P joking joking

Well ok maybe I should clarify. I like alot of what Brett did for getting GG moving. Thing seemed very stagnate for a lone time.

That being said I dont agree with all of his point of view on things I think that the torque powered thing was a bad idea. Garage-Games has had almost a year of brand recognition. Some bad some good. I think that just tossing that out so hurriedly was prolly not the best move but time will tell. then again maybe he felt that there was bad than good that people associated with that name.

Viva la GG!

Keep in mind that the main traffic and purpose of the website shifted dramatically over the past few years. Most people coming to this site and signing up were doing so to purchase Torque technology. Game submissions have been at an all time low, with stronger avenues opening up else where (Valve). Even without a name change, the main purpose of this site has become Torque-centric. The name change now better fits the community and company.

Heh. Bad news for Unity, good news for GG. :-)

For the record i hate TorquePowered as well, but the thing that matters... the engine... is still Torque.

@Mike: How is that bad for Unity? Brett did a really great job at GG as for as I can tell. Defiantly was instrumental in getting things moving in a more professional direction.

@Tom: Agreed.

@ James

It's a simple deduction.

Brett sent torque to new heights. That means tons of work and hours.

Where will his heart always be? hehe
I wasn't slighting Brett. Just stating what I saw as an obvious. The good news for GG is our new leader.

To be fair, I think game submissions are at an all time low because GG, from mine and other's perspective, stopped showing interest in publishing games on this site once InstantAction went live. :)

Not a slight toward anyone. Personally, I think "Torque" is a better known brand than GG nowadays, so the decision makes sense.

It did stun me that Brett went to Unity... just because he did such a nice job defending Torque!
