I have just finished my high schools and taken admission for computer engineering, side ways i m planning to create a game that has small level but are highly detailed(i have taken COD:5 as graphics standard for some unknown reasons)...i just can't choose b/w unigine and torque 3d...torque is a little lighter on my pocket but unigines's rendering look better(when i saw on there website)...the problem is that i will become expert in C++ in about 1 or 1 and a half year after that i can change the source code...till then i will create all the meshes and models required..but what still bothers me is that will i be required to change the source code to a large extent to get that good graphics, or i do not need change to the source code at all. plz answer this question. facts about the engine like how many polygon data an texture data it can handle are welcomed heartily..plz help me as it is my first game and will decide my career

Torque 3D is more than capable of what you want, but the end result still relies heavily on the art you use. Choosing a game engine should be based more on the tools you get, their ease of use, and licensing structure than graphical quality. The best advice I can give you is to download the demo, play with it and see if you like how it works.

The quality of graphics always comes down to being 3 parts art and 1 part code.Torque 3D is more than capable of what you want, but the end result still relies heavily on the art you use. well i m gud at art but was conscious about the capability of it's rendering power because i haven't seen any game yet on torque 3d really having what we call next gen graphics or features..

- Diffuse map
- Normal map
- Spec map
- Color spec map
- Detail normal
Using those, you can produce beautiful models like you see in Crysis or Unreal. You just have to be talented enough to make them. Advanced shader support, advanced lighting, and other features are also available.

The engine just came out last year, so people are still working with it. There have been posts in the show off thread displaying pictures that utilize the engine. The tech is absolutely there. For example, in the games you are talking about 3D models use the following:- Diffuse map
- Normal map
- Spec map
- Color spec map
- Detail normal

No DX 10/11 implementation, yet.

There are a few who have tapped the power. I've seen some amazing models using the tech, but no full games yet. One team in particular has been sending us screenshots of a project they are working on, and it is comparable to Modern Warfare. No DX 10/11 implementation, yet.

EDIT: i guess those implementation will be done in a year or two...or maybe i can try my hands on it.

Torque will won't be supporting DX10. When the next upgrade for DX support happens it will be to DX11.

that means( a little noob question)to give next-gen graphics i will either DX 9 or DX 11..but i wana know will it work with DX 10 cards plz elaborate....

DX10 cards work just fine in Win7 right now with DX11. DX11 cards get more features, that's all. There just isn't much *using* DX11 at all. DX11 replaces DX10, so you only need DX9 or DX11 modes.

Of course it works with DX10 cards. There's just not a lot of benefit to making a DX10 specific render path.

can u guys plz add detailed information about torque 3d at devmaster.net it is really helpful for people to look at its capabilities there

Likewise, great art is more a function of the artists on a team, not the engine's rendering capabilities. The COD franchise just happens to have really good artists- like most AAA games which can afford them.
