Demand for 2D art packs?

by Jules · in Artist Corner · 12/31/2009 (9:45 am) · 7 replies

Is there demand for 2D art packs? I've created quite a few 2D game assets over the past year or so, some have been created for flash game demos/concepts before going into full game production, such as this one (would work well on the iPhone) and some of the other artwork designed have just been good ideas and are sitting on the back burner for now. But having too many games in production slows down completion and with my hands full on two 3D games I'd like to see some of the artwork concepts I have created put to good use, so if any of you are interested in having 2D art packs created for your own games in Torque (TGB/2D) then I'd be happy to produce some, starting with the above (about 30-50 or so art assets; in the flash demo above you'll see more of them as you get on higher levels, such as Toxic Drums, Whale, Submarine/torpedo, Electric Eel, Crab) some animated/some not - either exclusive or non-exclusive. I wouldn't be interested in royalty projects.

Thanks, and look forward to finding out your interest.

Thank to those of you who emailed me on this. We have a few platform game art-packs on their way for TGB/T2D. Stay tuned..

I'm going to be looking 2d art packs some time in the coming months, though I realize this is an old thread.

I never seem to find exactly the right size artwork, or the artwork isn't appropriate for the game.

If you were to include multiple sizes of various 2d tiles in a 2d art pack, that might increase the number of potential buyers.

Right now, I'm using a 48x48 orthogonal tileset. That's shouldn't be too bad for finding artwork, though I haven't searched around much at this point.

I doubt that I'll find any art packs for the various images I would need for the anthromorphic animal-people (mostly rabbits) that would appear in my game. You would probably be best served by making artwork that is more general purpose. Character image requirements most likely would vary a great deal between different games.

Hi Steven. Old thread but still current. We're going for generic packs to start with.. for eample tile sets, 64x64, maybe even 128x128 that can be resized down. Generally for seamless tiles 129x129. Starting with textured surfaces such as grass, sand, mud, water etc then we'll go for character packs, object packs. So you can mix and match.

I could probably use resized 64x64 tiles without any problems. If it's still seamless after being resized, it most likely wouldn't be an issue.

Object packs are something else that I could use. I would need modern-ish objects (e.g. coffee makers), rather than fantasy-ish objects. I suspect that fantasy-ish packs would be more popular, but I'm not really sure.

I expect that I'll have to pay someone to do custom character artwork, and that's probably the way it should be anyways.

I should probably worry more about programming than art right now because that code isn't going to write itself. :(

Thanks for the feedback on what you're looking for. I'll take note on the modern stuff, and ask my artist to start work on some modern props - which are quite popular with the social gaming MMOs. If you need any custom character artwork, feel free to contact me via my website. Web address is in my profile - I can provide you with a portfolio of what has been done already.

I have bookmarked your website and will keep you in mind for when I eventually purchase custom artwork. I don't know exactly when that's going to be, but it would be a seriously bad sign if I'm not at the buying-artwork stage by this time next year.

Thanks Steven. We'll be releasing some 3D packs first, but I will post an update here which should notify you by email :) Good luck with your project.
