Does Maya Grouped Geometry exports function the same as a Prefab from Constructor?

Hey all,

I've been working on some level geometry in Maya 2010 and aiming to get peak game performance in T3D and was looking into Prefabs that are created in Torque Constructor in order to make my level more lean.

While learning about Prefabs, I was wondering if a piece of Maya grouped geometry exported as .dae(openCollada)functions and performs identical to Torque Constructor Prefab .dts exports?

It would seem that they are similar operations serving the same purpose just different approaches from different DCC (digital content creation) packages?

Any insights would be helpful, thanks!
