Allow use of textures in published game?

by Tyler Slabinski · in Game Design and Creative Issues · 11/30/2009 (11:10 pm) · 7 replies

Ok, so I am working on an iPhone game, and I am currently making the levels in .difs. The problem? I am horrible at making textures... REALLY horrible...

I remember a few months ago I asked a similar question, and the response was that I may use anything packed into TGE for my own use. My question is this:

Am I allowed to use artwork (specifically textures) from TGE in my own game? I did not find anything in the EULA saying I can't, but I just wanted to be sure.

Not actaully the answer you're looking for ... but for textures, try www.cgtextures.com.

One of the employees said something to the effect that yes, you may use the included art, as long as your game isn't largely based on GG's art. It's been answered somewhere in the TGE forums, I think.

Wow! Thanks Steve, that should be a big help. I am allowed to use these without paying, right? Even if I publish it?

As Mike said - yes! Their eula explains it all.

If you look closely you'll spot some source photographs from 3A games. I was gonna post the link to one of the roof texture that I ID'ed from Ball of Fruity 1-2 ... but their server is down right now (rats - foiled again).

Yeah, cgtextures is astronomical win for the lazy artist - they've even got a whole load of stuff pre-tiled ... though some of the tiling quality is variable.

And speaking of free/cheap stuff - there's a huge list of useful websites on a Gamestudio forum which people might find useful.
