Hello,
My name is Cheryl Gress and I run Christian Computer Game Reviews http://www.ccgr.org we review games from a Christian perpesctive and mention things that the ESRB doesn't. Even though we mention things in games that we don't agree with, we also praise games for what they do right. If oyu ahve any questions or comments I'm interested in them.

Great site. It's nice to see someone stepping up and doing something like this. Especially when you consider how some Christians make the rest of us look like extremists with their knee-jerk reactions to just about everything. I'll make sure to tell parents at my church about your site.
To those of you who have that same knee-jerk reaction when the word 'Christian' comes up, just remember that there are tens of millions of computer owning Christians out there. It seems to me that for an indie to shut out a potentially lucrative market simply in order to satisfy the lowest common denominator is a bad business decision.

religion is the bottled applesauce of a very delicious apple called spirituality... commoditized to the nth degree and mass produced.. :)

I have to say, the site is fairly refreshing from the usual Christian propaganda types that give organized relgion such as bad rap.

I asked about Doom because I've read a published letter in a Nintendo Power magazine (way back in '96 I believe?) from a nun who played the game at her convent, agreeing it was a very creative game about 'ridding the world from the demons of hell' :D
Just thought it would reflect upon you in an odd and interesting way ;)
Good luck with the site, it seems very acceptable.

I took a glance at it. It's a good start, but needs more games reviewed. I'm not sure to what degree you are aiming to rate these games. I thought it was going to be very critical like this one movie site I saw (can't remember the URL). Is your main goal to give a list of things that christians should be concerned about playing this game, or just a game review with a christian spin? It seems like you are going for the latter, and if that is the case, then you are golden. I would make a template of items you want to discuss and make sure you discuss them in all of your reviews so that there is some consistency that your readers will be able to eventually rely on. I saw some reviews that had no discussion of morally questionable items or anything. All in all, not too bad 'tall.

thanks...I started CCGR when I bought one too many games with occult crap in them and decided to start a site that would mention things the ESRB doesn't. I did most of the reviews (that's why there's only 200+) but we have some volunteer reviewers as well. They don't always follow the same outline but appropriateness should be mentioned in them all.

Far to many times I find myself defending the artwork or content of a game to a fellow Christian. They auto-matically label anything that is outside of their belief as something bad. Instead I feel they should be looking at the good in it. As well as the talent it took to make it.
I believe that everything that is good comes from God alone and we should thank him for the opportunity to enjoy these things. I do!
Again a refreshing website. Well Done

This is a good site. It's refreshing to see that not all Christians instantly label any form or repetition of violence, sex and the like as the devils work. Uhhh, where's the Jewish Computer Games Review site? What about the Muslim one? Oh, and we can't forget Buddhists & Catholics, now can we?

This is the funniest post in a long time. Close to my heart, too.
The funny thing to me about a game like Doom... a place that was really meant to symbolize hell probably wouldn't have 'occult' symbols at all, since these are man-made.
Hmm!

Catholics ARE Christians..... heh. And why would you want a Christian to write a Muslim Game review? This is the funniest post in a long time. Close to my heart, too.

sorry if you find the site offensive but many find it useful.
09/27/2003 (7:47 am)
Parents find the site useful as well so it's not just limited to Christians..the purpose of the site is to point out things that the ESRB doesn't. You can use the information or ignore it. We're not here to wage wars. We do have a discussion forum where people of many faiths talk about spiritual issues.sorry if you find the site offensive but many find it useful.

It's not like Cheryl is trying to force her views on others. She's merely making her reviews available as a service for those whose beliefs match her own. The people who try to get publicly banned or prevented because their religion does not agree with it scare me. But folks who are just trying to help others of their faith avoid things that they might not like? Can't see anything wrong with that, and a lot right with it. Good luck. :)

Speaking as a non-Christian, I frankly can't see anything wrong with a christian game reviewer - or a jewish one, muslim one, or any other form of review where the person writing it might be coming from a slightly different ethical background compared to "standard" mainstream reviews. It's not like Cheryl is trying to force her views on others. Right after I typed your name in I thought "Hey I need to change that from guy to gal" and then had one of my brain cramps and didn't do it. I seem be be having a lot of those these days.
I forwarded your site on to a friend who's father is a minister.
