just noticed layers in the mat editor, was wondering if this was what i thought it was and texture blending found it's way into the engine.
if that is the case a quick description on what defines layer 0-3 and i'll be happy to provide some example art. i was just wishing for it yesterday while i waited for my softimage regkeys to arrive in the inbox.
if it's not texture blending, any hints on what it actually is? it could still be a very handy piece of information.

well it may still prove useful, maybe i can mask the textures and blend them that way...i'll play around and see what i can achieve later.thanks for the response.

Like you could put a scrolling glowing texture on layer 0 and a alpha cutout material over it which partially obscures the first layer.
For example the crates in this video use that technique:
You could do other effects with it as well... just have to experiment.
