3ds max exporter messing up DSQs

by Jake H. · in Torque Game Engine Advanced · 11/18/2009 (3:55 pm) · 4 replies

I have been working on some DSQs, and have gotten through a few with no problems. However, I tried creating a back animation, and in the animation I rotate the pelvis to accentuate the leg animations, and a couple of the spine segments and the neck to make the character's head look back. However, it seems like whenever I rotate the spine, neck or pelvis, the arms start flying in the air and the head turns 180. Pictures follow:

The file looks proper in 3ds max. There's no improper distortion. However, once it goes into ShowTool, that's when it breaks.

I can't figure out what's going on here. Help?

While my post is not an answer but is another question, I hope you don't mind my asking to add to confusion.

Since I am still in the "learn 3ds Max" phase, I thought to export to Show Tool Pro as well and your problem puzzled me enough to ask if you tried to load the DSQ into the game engine as well?

Sure I know that Show Tool is to help you see what to expect before it gets into the engine, but since you seem knowledged enough to make a model and export it from 3ds Max, I thought you might eliminate or narrow down the problem by trying getting the character into the engine.

I guess my post is more about learning from your answer and what you tried already. lol.

EDIT:
I went looking for an exporter for 3ds Max 2010, found this comment that it could just be the exporter.

Thanks for the link, I'll have to check it out later.

I hadn't checked, but I got the same result in-game as well.

never saw this before.

Send me your max file and the DTS/DSQ showing the issue in showtoolpro.

:-|

Literally, 18 hours ago I couldn't get anything to export properly. I was on a deadline and re-did files several times, and wound up exporting the DSQ without its spine.

This morning it works fine. I can't duplicate the error to save my life, and I've apparently erased the files which originally produced the problem.

Ugh.

I do have similar problems with characters sharing DSQs (the arms are facing backwards)....what might cause this error?

If the error crops up again, can I still email it to you? I've never seen this before either, and I'm stumped.
