Music Note Wav File High Quality

by JesseL · in Game Design and Creative Issues · 11/16/2009 (4:18 pm) · 4 replies

So there I was guys. Looking for some high quality music notes of violins, pianos, flutes, you name it I tried to find something worth while. I ended up calling all of the recording studios in Las Vegas Town area to see if I could find anyone that could give me some quality music notes. The quotes for renting studio space for recording was from 60 dollars an hour with engineer to 125 an hour with engineer. Some of them even rented out musicians from 10 dollars additional to 125 dollars additional charge per person per hour. I just want to finish up my guiMusicCreator where a person can choose sheet music type and instrument type and place the notes on the sheet music and play it back to themselves. I'm not asking for the world here am I?

I just realized that if I wanted to create a cat that caught on fire and ran up a telephone pole and then burst into a blue waterfall. That wouldn't be to hard!

Blech. I hate people like that that charge insane amounts of money by the hour for a single job. They always seem to take their precious time and make you charge them more.

I suggest you try using something like GarageBand or something similar to make each individual note.

How do you guys think the quality is on these files?

Greetings!

I'm in the same boat as you. For my game, I want the player to be able to play a couple of instruments. I've searched the Internet far and wide, and found it really difficult to find instruments with the appropriate licensing. While I have managed to find a large number of instrument samples, none of them allow for their distribution -- only their use in the creation of music. And so far contacting the license owners to discuss additional terms has resulted in a lot of unanswered mail.

I also came across the UoI music library. I'm currently using one of their flutes as a place holder in my game. The quality of the sound has so far been great, with the only tricky part being the setting of loop points within the sample (and Torque not handling looping of a partial sample out of the box). However, in my case the attack on the flute is much too slow and I won't be able to use it in the end.

Because I'm not going for a whole orchestra like you are but only a couple of instruments, I suspect I'll just end up sampling a couple of them on my own. A good condenser mic and a largish closet filled with clothes should do the trick. :o)

@David, Hey I figured I'd try working with the sound files that I recieved from UoI.
I redownloaded Audicity and put in the Chris's dynamic Compressor and WOW is all I can say.
Audicity
audacity.sourceforge.net/

Chris's plug in for audicity
pdf23ds.net/software/dynamic-compressor/

I think this is going to work for me.
