Getting Torque Game Engine to run on Windows 7 Ultimate

Well I took the plunge and upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate (an obvious idiot move on my part), without checking to see if Torque will function or not.
Well it doesn't, when I try to execute torquedemo.exe my screen flashes, I lose my background and mouse and then I'm forced to reboot to get it back to working mode.
I tried running it in compatibility mode (XP w/ SP3) and same thing. I downloaded XP Mode only to find out that my CPU does not support VT so XP Mode is unavailable to me (way to go Microsoft, well and me I suppose but who would have expected the need of VT??).
Anyway what can I do to get Torque running again (aside from wipe & reload to Vista)? I'm needing it for my programming class, luckily I have this weeks assignments already done so I won't need to use it again until Monday.
Thanks,
Robert.

Try disabling Aero in the same place you did the compatibility mode. Right-click on the Torque shortcut and select properties. Click the compatibility tab. Disable Visual Themes and Desktop Composition.
