Graveyard of dead projects

I was wondering what happens to people once they do a bunch of work for a project and then it dies.. Do the people just take their work and go to another project?
Reason I ask is because I'm currently working on level design using worldcraft. It has come to my attention that there has to be billions of levels already out there that no one ever uses.
If I take a completed level add my own textures and change it to suit my game is that copy write infrigment. Cause I started with a level then edited it?
If it is does anyone have levels kickin around that they are not using?

Hmm, if anyone has extra materials they are not going to use. Levels, Textures, Music etc etc I would be interested in using it. This must be your own work and it will most likly be altered to match my game. I would give you credit for your work. Or if you want to join my team let me know.If anyone is interested email me.

You are right, there must be ALOT of unfinished work out there. So why let it go to waste? Why not donate it to the torque community, and if someone happens to use it, they can eitehr put your name in the credits, or maybe pay you a small fee or something.
I imagine that this could be an incredible source of art resources for GG developers. just think how many unfinished, or finished and unused, models, textures, and levels there must be!
What do you guys think?

Awesome idea folks! If everyone acts responsibly and fairly, this could jumpstart more than a few projects and maybe revive a few as well.Fingers crossed,
DonC.

I am interested in starting an open-content standard. I too have amassed a large sum of useable and good work. Id like to apply a unified license to any content. If you are interested in maintaining an open-content resource for INDEPENDANT game developers just reply in this thread.

www.digitalgraveyard.com? But I like digitalboneyard; has a nice ring to it. This is a great idea!

What sort of license do most people have in mind? I'm thinking free to use as long as credit is given...donations accepted =)

www.digitalgraveyard.com is taken :\ First thing I tried. Only other option I thought up that is available is www.digitalbones.net but I like digitalboneyard.com better. What sort of license do most people have in mind? I'm thinking free to use as long as credit is given...donations accepted =)

Any license (apart from simple public domain) is probably going to need a lawyer to look at it.

Sounds nice guys, just make sure you organize it good. Good luck :)

This definatly sounds like a good idea. I may have some stuff to add too. Mostly code pieces that i've done playing around.
