GUIMainMenuText Tutorial not working

I'm trying to complete GUIMainMenuText Mini-Tutorial , but not getting the menu GUI when pressing delete.
The console shows no erros. I've checked it many times everything is correct.
Then I downloaded the .zip file to try it. It works when I hit delete, only I can see 3 buttons and no
background (rectangle grey image as it shown on the picture).
Also if I load up GUI Builder and simply resave MainMenuGUI.gui with out any changes, it doesnt work again, I get no menu or buttons, the console shows no errors.
Was trying to complete the ScoreAnd Time GUI tutorial, all works except the timer (seems to me it's not updating) Again all corrcet according to the tutorial and no console errors. Downloaded the .zip file to check it , the same result, no timer update
What gives? why almost all GUI mini-tutorials dont work?

Btw at the start I didnt have Profiles in GUI Builder where almost all tutorials refer to , so I searched the forums and found out how to fix it, here's the thread http://www.garagegames.com/community/forums/viewthread/68315 could it be that after that fix it causes the problems

These GUI tutorials are so essential to us beginners if we cant move beyond it then we just should give up, there are some waterstones now and then which need to be resolved. Not to mention that Profiles bug in GUI Builder.

I followed your suggestion and dropped a sprite and saved it as untitled , then as level, then as level01, still time isnt ticking :(
It's amazing I cant get a simple menu button appear and work, is it that hard?
It's driving me to the point of giving up and going to the army.
