Confused about what products I need!

by FruitBatInShades · in Torque X 2D · 11/03/2009 (8:50 am) · 3 replies

I own Torque Game Builder and Torque X. I want to create a platform game so am getting the Platform Starter Kit but I have a few issues!

I've downloaded xna 3.1 and installed it.
I have Visual Studio Pro 2008 (I'm a developer for a living, not games though)

When I try and install torquex-1.0.5.1 it says I do not have XNA GAme Studio Express or Visual c# Express 2005.

Is there a way to get the installer to carry on? I don't really want to install the express edition when I have the full pro studio.

I'm also not sure whether torquex-1.0.5.1 is the same as Torque2D or whether I need to buy that too! So many products on garage now!

Any pointers gratefully recieved!

Do you have the source license for torqueX? Your profile says TGE and TGB but not TX. You need to have TX2D pro to use the platformer starter kit, it works with VS2008 and XNA 3.1. BTW TX is now version 3.1 as well, what did you download?

Good luck

I think Torque X Builder 1.0.5 is bundled with TGB Pro. At least, I never purchased it separately, but the "My Products" page shows that I can download it.

Anyway, like Henry says, it's very old and outdated at this point; if you're serious about using Torque X, you'll need to buy it separately, because it's no longer bundled.

Bought Torque X 2d and the platform starter kit :) Very nice, just working through all the tutorials and working out what I need to write for my game.
