Failed to set a light manager ?
by Dalton! · in Technical Issues · 10/27/2009 (12:13 pm) · 9 replies
Hey all. I'm a novice at Torque and have just downloaded the demo, But it seems every time i try and load a scenario as soon as it starts up i get a crash report saying "Failed to set light manager".
I looked around a bit and found a solution but the solution that i found was irrelevant to me simply because i did not have the cs file that i was supposed to.
Anyway i just want to know what i can do to fix this. Thanks for any help given.

The engine I'm referring to is the torque 3D 2009 demo. I downloaded it to test it but already my time is running out and i haven't got a lick of test time for the program.
I'm currently running windows Xp home edition and i have all the requirements to properly run the program (Minimum requirements that is).
When i load of the Torque toolbox, I just click a scenario i want to test (Example would be the first demo scenarios you get like "PhysX") and then in the sub menu i click either "World Editor" or "Play Game"
When i do that it seems to be loading for about half a second and a box appears that says
"Unable to load game library C:\Torque\Torque 3D 2009 Tools Demo 1.0.1\PhysX\Game\PhysX.dll Please make sure it exists and the latest directX is installed"
So instead of running that i tried to make my own world that i could edit so when i did (I just made an empty world that i can configure) It also loads for about half a second and then a box prompts up saying "Error Failed to set a light manager"
This is what is currently happening to the demo and i would just like to know how i can fix it.
Again i am sorry for the rude post. Just having a hard day.
Dalton.

Don't worry about the other post, it's gone now :) just don't do it again.

I know it sounds like an obvious solution but have you installed the latest directx runtimes redistributables. The message box displaying the error was most likely not just a stumbling block but an actual hint as to something is missing. The DLL exists, so I can assume it is not that - which leaves the directX. March 2009 and later redist installs worked for me.Don't worry about the other post, it's gone now :) just don't do it again.

Make sure Both are installed and try running again. If that still doesn't work, try copying the physX.dll into the physX demo folder. Also, try one of the other demo games.
In the folder with the torque.exe is a file called "console.log". It's just a text file that can be opened in any text editor. Open it up and see what it says. It's almost the best way to debug torque.

Quote:"Unable to load game library C:\Torque\Torque 3D 2009 Tools Demo 1.0.1\PhysX\Game\PhysX.dll Please make sure it exists and the latest directX is installed"This says: "Eather the PhysX.dll isn't installed, or directX isn't installed or both." ( to break it down.)

FIX: After installing Physics and DirectX SDK, restart your computer. Solved everything for me - doh.
I had trouble with this as well. I followed the installation guide to a T (I believe). If I try and launch the Physics demo from the main project window if fails with the error code:
"Unable to load game library C:TorqueTorque 3D 2009 Tools Demo 1.0.1PhysXGamePhysX.dll Please make sure it exists and the latest directX is installed"
I can however run it directly from the demo folder if I navigate there directly. That the off part no errors from the actual demo folder but if you use the Project Window it fails.

Perhaps i can help you. But it would be EXTREMELY difficult seeing as you have given zero information. Sometimes, information can be the difference between a reply and no reply.
What engine are you referring to?
What system are you running on?
What does the console output say above and around the error?
I do love my guessing games, but if you actually want answers you will need to provide more information.
