Can't start project in windows 7
by Aernoud Boer · in Torque 3D Professional · 10/24/2009 (7:49 am) · 13 replies
When I click in the toolbox on a project.
It crashes during startup with the announcement: "Program not responding, shutting down."
The program shuts down and the toolbox comes up.
Anyone got a solution? I 've got this problem since update to windows 7.
Thanks,
Aernoud

Update GPU driver - not using Microsoft, go to ATI site.

Which version of T3D? and which version of DirectX? Did you do any recompiling? I had *alot* of problems with DirectX August 2009, and T3D 1.01, had to revert back to March 2009, that cured it.

If you "upgraded" that could actually give you problems from what I have heard with some development environments, (From an IT guy at MS that I go to school with) not sure why(some of what he said was WAY over my head, i know little about how operating systems are designed) but I had problems with various programs after an "upgrade" so I did a clean install(at my classmates request) and then installed all my Dev' programs (T3D and VS2008+SDK's)and things amazingly went great. In-fact in the 6 month I have been using Win7 I have had ZERO windows crashes(Thought I was dreaming), amazing.

No (positive) result yet.
I will try to revert back to March 2009.
Update: Didn't do the trick.
Other suggestions?

What exactly was it you were doing, creating a new project or editing/playing an existing example?

Try dropping your UAC settings to the lowest level. I've been messing around with Win7 the past week and I ran across a couple instances where programs (not T3D) where tripping the UAC but the notifications weren't getting displayed. Those programs were getting blocked from running then and I had to kill the processes. What exactly was it you were doing, creating a new project or editing/playing an existing example?

I just tried to run and edit both examples.
I figured out that the programs run well in a browser.

Do you onbord sound or a sound card?

Edit: Found the problem! If I disable the soundcard the examples work.
So my next question is:
How to get the examples work with sound(card)? ;-)

Ok it may have to do with openal, can you start with one of the other audio options instead of the default, try that and let me know how it goes

I also run Windows 7 (release) and do not have
such problems. Just to be sure. Did you install
DirectX and the PhysX SDK
