Maya Collada export issues

by Cory - (AU) · in Artist Corner · 10/22/2009 (1:27 am) · 5 replies

I am using Maya 2008 and open collada exporter for Maya. I have characters that are animated and are exporting in but distorted. The animations seem to play fine but freak out, models slide around and are not posed properly. Can anyone help me with understanding the skeletal setup in Maya so they come in and play animations correctly? Please help!

If you view the animations in the shape editor, do the nodes appear to move correctly? ie. is it just the geometry that is distorted, or do the nodes move strangely as well?

One character I loaded the geometry looks fine but it does not move correctly. When I bring in another character he is contorted and bent all to hell and back.. Do you know how that should be set up in hierarchy or does it require special nodes?

I'm not aware of any hierarchy or node requirements (unless you want to make use of the default player model animations, but I assume that is not the case).

Is the model posed correctly when you select the <rootpose> in the Sequences tab of the Shape Editor?

Would it be possible to send me an example of a model that is not importing correctly? I wrote the T3D collada loader so should be able to figure out what is going wrong here.

Just out of interest => did you set the "Bake Transform" option when you exported the model? Could you try doing this if you haven't already?
