CPU Usage thru the roof (Single core)

I did a bit of testing and cpu usage is thru the roof. These tests were done on a stock unaltered 1.0.1 version.
1st machine (SINGLE CORE)
AMD Sempron 3400+ 2.0GHZ running 32 bit xp pro os
2.0gig ram
7800gs
blank room: 92% to 98% cpu usage
desertball: 89% to 99% cpu usage
burg: 70% to 99% cpu usage
2nd machine (SINGLE CORE)
AMD Athlon 64bit 3400+ 2.4GHZ, running 64bit xp pro os
2.0 gig ram
7600gs
blank room: 89% to 95% cpu usage
desertball: 84% to 92% cpu usage
burg: 56% to 80% cpu usage
on machine 2 i test these other games for cpu usage
cod4 28% to 55% cpu usage
bf2 18% to 25% cpu usage
We have another guy running a dual core processor and he does not have these issues, he can put his to single core and he tells me that his cpu usage doesnt change. I know these are not the greatest machines but it should not be this bad.
How can we make games with this engine and expect our customers not to bitch when their single core processor cant play it? What are we suppose to tell them, sorry but you need a new computer?
If anyone else out there is running a single core processor and you have time to try these tests and post your results. I would like to see what your results are.
