Ever love an old game so much....

... that you would look into trying to build a sequel?
Despite the fact that you could never hope to land a proper liscence to use the story material (and thus, never get paid... or worse)
Some old friends keep moaning about a long past mech game and its lack of updates.
Ive got half a mind to try and do something about it, but the other half says the first half has lost its sanity :p
Bleh, Im just rambling now.
Anyone got opinions?

I think it would be a really neat squad based action/RPG game where you lead a group of 'runners.
Also multi-player would rock :)

As for Shadowrun, I loved the game and the SNES version of the game. The RPG/action thing was really cool, and getting cybered-up was awesome.I think it would be a really neat squad based action/RPG game where you lead a group of 'runners.

I was gonna say fallout, but it looks like there are quite a few mods as well as a 3rd in the making....

I also loved Star Control II. I wrote a Flash 4 clone of the melee. And that's also going to be my first T2D project. :)

I'd have said Total Annihilation. But now that Supreme Commander is coming out....I also loved Star Control II. I wrote a Flash 4 clone of the melee. And that's also going to be my first T2D project. :)

I would love to see that happen, just the core game, modern graphics, and maybe more balanced
races and more things to research (some games were over too fast because people got the
Spell of Mastery so quickly).

Some people love Master of Magic so much they are trying to license it for a true sequel or remake.I would love to see that happen, just the core game, modern graphics, and maybe more balanced
races and more things to research (some games were over too fast because people got the

I've heard rumors upon rumors of Diablo III, but nothing has fallen out in the years between the release of their hit Diablo II and the expansion Lord of Destruction. I would love to re-capture the addicting multiplayer gameplay in a 3d remake, but I highly doubt Blizzard would sit well with that.

My two-person team would be busy making a version of an old Gollop game - not UFO, but a
fantasy-themed turn-based game so old it existed for C64. It had the shittiest, clunkiest
interface I've seen outside basement-BASIC games from hobbyists, but it's an interesting
concept. Lords of Chaos is one title, although it's been seen under others. Wizards, magic,
summoning. Mmm.
The world would be a better place with some sort of updated Megatraveller games, too.
I really liked the old MT1+2 games. Oh, and gimme more Fallout! Or even Wasteland,
for that matter. Fallout is a spiritual successor to Wasteland.

Intantly Descent III comes to my mind. I loved that game so much due to the freespace aspect of it where you could move on all the x,y,z axis. Would be fun to make a game similar to that and change the story/aspect of it so that it bears no resemblance to the actual descent game.

I would love, love, love to do / see / play a sequel to Dungeon Keeper 2. This time they are busting out of the dungeons and taking over the hero's land. Man, that'd be fantastic.Fredrik S

I loved River City Ransom, but I wouldn't want to make a sequel or remake of it, I'd rather do something that had a similar fighting style and artwork inspired by the blocky character designs of the original. The same goes for Final Fantasy VI - it defined the genre of console RPGs for me, but I wouldn't want to remake the game, I would rather use my own ideas and incorporate them into the style and feel of what I think a console RPG SHOULD be.
That being said, there are a few games that I would LOVE to see get updated with better plot, graphics, and gameplay:
- Double Dragon
- Air Fortress (perhaps in a Descent-style Cassidy?)
- Pilot Wings (are you LISTENING Nintendo?)
- River City Ransom (see notes above)

I agree Cassidy, not necessarily with Descent III, but with making a game that is similar, or inspired by, a game that you love. Call it a homage, tribute, or "this looks very similar to...", but I think its an idea worth merit to an indie game developer.I loved River City Ransom, but I wouldn't want to make a sequel or remake of it, I'd rather do something that had a similar fighting style and artwork inspired by the blocky character designs of the original. I, for one, think it would be better to make an ORIGINAL game, maybe based on a past game? Maybe that's because of my experiences on the Game Maker Community (half the games were crappy fangames), but I've grown to like original games much better.
