Torque X 2D and its new features

by Diego Santos Leao - GameBlox Studio · in Torque X 2D · 10/02/2009 (9:03 pm) · 10 replies

Isn't Torque X 2D going to get any new features in the near future? Don't get me wrong, I think TX2D is great and very useful: I have been using it frequently. But sometimes it feels that Garage Games just let it aside. I have tried other XNA engines (both 2d and 3d) and TX2D is by far the most stable and useful (if you really spend the necessary time to understand how it works).

This is sad because most of us are still getting used to XNA (you can see the submission quality going way up at each Dream Build Play). One essential update (3.0), for example, came many months after the old version was discontinued by Microsoft, leaving many of us stuck for a long time.

It would be insightful to receive an answer about this concern here in the forums, and let others share their opinions on this matter... Maybe it's just me, because I'm using it so frequently...

I can definitely understand your concern and there are some big changes in the works that will be announced very shortly, probably next week. Suffice it to say, there are big plans in the works for Torque X 2D/3D with a new focus and direction for the engine. All will be revealed soon.

I think the Box 2D was part of it but me thinks there is more to this.
I'm quite interested as I'm moving away from Torque 2D and more to TorqueX since I'm doing C# programming.

Something a bit more official would be nice :-)

It would be really a shame if Garage Games let Torque X 2D aside
It is the best 2d engine around

They just put out a new version today. I don't think that will ever be an option.

I need to get on top of Torque X 2D now. At least I have a lot more experience with C# and XNA. I've been working on a Pong Clone in XNA and just about have it done.
