Which engine to purchase???

Hi. I'm currently working with the TGB demo and making a 2D game that is coming along nicely. I like the engine and plan on purchasing a license. I'm just not sure which one to buy. I want to publish it for the iphone and possibly the xbox as well. What is the difference between torque X and TBG. If I create a game with TGB will it easily open up and play with torque X? How about torque for iphone? Will it open in that too? Do they all use torquescript? am I getting anything with the TBG that I wouldn't get with Torque X? TGB is $100 and Torque X is $150, only $50 more. If I buy TBG and want to upgrade to torque X is it another $150, or just $50? Sorry for so many questions, I'm just a bit confused, as you can tell.
If my ultimate goal is to have a game that can play on the pc, iphone, and xbox. What should I develop it in. Does it have to be developed from scratch for each one? If I have to stick to one platform, such as iphone, should I purchase the iphone version right away or can I just use TBG for now and upgrade to the iphone version when I'm ready to release without having to redo too much.
thanks for your patients.

What is T2D? is that a pc or iphone product or both?

OK, so it sounds like putting it on Xbox will be put on the backburner for now. So I should be able to completely make this game in TGB and then buy the iphone version and publish it to the iphone, correct? What is T2D? is that a pc or iphone product or both?

T2D is Torque2D, the details are not finalized.

Yes, you can design the game in TGB, tweak the graphics for mobile devices and polish it further in T2Di :)

TGB is the current 2D C++ engine, and T2D will be its sequel. It could drop anytime from now till the end of time, so just get TGB to get a good start. All the scripting knowledge will carry over, and some internals will probably also be similar. I'm hoping it will be filled with awesome, along the lines of T3D compared to TGEA, but I can contain myself. Barely.Yes, you can design the game in TGB, tweak the graphics for mobile devices and polish it further in T2Di :)

I am now really confused. This "Torque 2D" thing, or T2D for short, is not released yet? I thought that "Torque 2D" was just another alias for the Torque Game Builder and therefore one-and-the-same (I mean, wikipedia says so, and even the GG's TGB url leads to this assumption). Can someone clarifies this for me? o.O

If I remember correctly TGB used to be called T2D once upon a time. Now TGB is the current C++ 2d engine and T2D is the next generation of TGB like T3D is the next generation of TGEA...

Interesting especially since TGB's objects all start with t2d (e.g. t2dStaticSprite).

Any idea of a vague release date? (like, is it before the year's end or next spring, etc?) Also, beside the real-time networking feature (I thought I read someone on this forum saying that "actual real-time networking is a myth and cannot be done... but I digress), what else is known about the new features/work-environment/awesomeness that T2D will bring?

also, if I buy TGB now, will I be eligible for a discount to upgrade to T2d when it's released? Or is it best to wait and save money. Is it going to be a new version for the iphone as well or just the pc version?

They've always let us do delta upgrades so far, so I expect you just pay the difference between TGB and T2D.

* in monopoly cash

My million-dollar question* would be: would this new T2D, by any chance, be able to also C# and thus export to XNA? (ie, a merge/combination of TGB and TX2D)* in monopoly cash

(I'd be kinda pissed if I suddenly lose the ability to keep following the tech, since I haven't booted up the Windows computer in weeks!)

I'm pretty sure T2D will remain a C++ engine :)(I'd be kinda pissed if I suddenly lose the ability to keep following the tech, since I haven't booted up the Windows computer in weeks!)

TorqueX and iTGB are not going to be the same TorqueX will get you the PC and Xbox they have no scripting like TorqueScript its C# XNA based and with little configuration differences the game will play the same on both. But for the iphone you will need a different product and it will come with similarities but not a no brainier conversion!
