To answer your question though; you get code, not a precompiled engine, therefore it's possible to make any type of game you want to. Just take a look at the games already offered. Marble Blast for example was made with Torque, and I think I can safely say it's nothing like Tribes.
It's all down to you really. It's a not a game maker, it's source code, and you'll need to be knowledgable in c++ to do anything with it.

Yeah, the fact you describe it as a "gamemaker" would lead me to believe you're misunderstanding just what Torque is. It's not a "game-wizard", or even a "game-kit", it's a professional 3d engine, and you'll need to know or learn c++ to be able to do anything with it.To answer your question though; you get code, not a precompiled engine, therefore it's possible to make any type of game you want to. He doesn't necessarily need to know C++ to do anything with it, but he does need to have some programming experience. Just to play around with the scripts you need some sort of background in programming just to understand basic syntax and logic. I suggest downloading Realmwars or buy T2 and try to start learning the scripting langauge before you put down your $100.

Those games were all made with the Torque engine (or it's ancestor, in the case of Tribes 2.)

If you are interested in buying Torque because you are interested in learning how to make games and you have great determination and patience...then great. Welcome to the club. If you are picturing that you can use it to make a game by yourself and with little effort and with no learning, then you will be dissapointed. As other people have mentioned, its not a "Game Maker".

If you only have some experience with PHP and MYSQL then you almost certainly don't have enough experience to make major modifications to the game engine source. If you pick a modest enough goal and commit yourself to learning C++ and you are patient then you can succeed. However...since you are asking if its possible to "make a game like RUNE", I am guessing you do not realize what sort of effort goes into making a game like that. The short answer is that Toruqe is powerful enough to make *any* sort of game...but making even the simplest of RPG, RTS, or FPS games is not easy. No matter what tools you use it simply is not easy.If you are interested in buying Torque because you are interested in learning how to make games and you have great determination and patience...then great. ok thanx !
im not just interested in making one fast and easy game.
i wanna learn some and make a very good game, cuz the program seems to be very powerfull. i just tryed the Realm Wars and like it. I played with a guy in there (totally unexpected) and i really wanna learn it.
So i guess all the programming are based on C++ - ok Then i learn that. Buying some books and stuff, i got lot of patience.
But tell me, how does it works with mapping and setting the "hero" in the game? are there something that looks like 3D max or are it only based on Scripting?
cuz i like the style of the 3D GameStudio, but it aint got lot feautures so i really wanna learn this, and its very cheap also.

There is no program. Torque is a Software Development Kit (SDK). You use it and a C++ compiler to build your own programs. Games like, Tribes 2, Marble Blast, and Realm Wars were all made with it.
I'm not trying to be rude or belittle you but there are some serious fundimental concepts you need to grasp before you even consider buying Torque and/or writing a game.

From the questions you are asking, I would not recommend that you purchase the Torque Game Engine. You need to learn a lot more about programming before you will get enough out of the purchase.

You say you have some php knowledge, well it's pretty much the same
Later on you have a pretty cool terrain editor and mission editor to play with, but thats waay after you've done everything else. I do suggest you buy some c++ books and read - then read some more, and none of those learn c in 24 hours crap, spend your money on O'Reilly books.
In fact ,I'd start off with C++ Primer isbn: 0-201-82470-1 and Practical C++ Programming isbn: 1-56592-139-9 .. Really good books.

No, I'm not kidding. I use vi 99% of the time to code in. Sure, there are pretty IDEs like visual studio, kdevelop, code warrior, etc etc. But they all do the same thing. Edit text files and send commands to the compiler. You say you have some php knowledge, well it's pretty much the same

as NfoCipher illustrated, Torque is not a "program" per se but a lump of source code and huge lump of code at that. I ran some stats on it with Understand for C++ and they are pretty intimdating even for the experienced.

-At it's basic level it's a C++ program, you need to know C++ if you wish to alter the program much beyond what you download, which is an example of a first person shooter.
-This C++ program has built in features like a Graphical User Interface editor. There are already some of these features coded into the engine, like the ability to display text and graphics overlays on your screen.
-This C++ program also has an extensive networking capability built into it, so that it can transmit data across the internet (I believe Tribes2 received awards on this great code).
-You use Milkshape, or 3D studio max to create your characters. It's completly up to you to create these guys, skin them, animate them, etc.
As Jeff Tunnel said, I'd spend you money elsewhere, learn C++, and then come back to this.

I personally like the C++ in 24 hrs book I purchased. Morfar a rundown of what torque is:-At it's basic level it's a C++ program, you need to know C++ if you wish to alter the program much beyond what you download, which is an example of a first person shooter.

I think GG should introduce a feasability test for potential customers. If you can find a screenshot of Torque on this website, then you are allowed to buy a Torque license.
Of course I'm kidding, but sometimes I really do wonder..................

This isn't a friend of DarkAssassin is it? Morfar take the advice and look elsewhere. You're not ready for Torque. Maybe you should stick with Dark Basic, Blitz Basic, 3DRad or 3D Gamestudio.I think GG should introduce a feasability test for potential customers. You mentioned you've used Blitz3d and DarkBASIC, where you get a program with it to code and compile your game. Let me make an analogy: if Blitz3d is the scripting tool to make your game, Torque is the code that Blitz3d was made with. Or if Blitz was PHP, then torque would be the Apache code. Understand what I mean?
You don't get an editor or compiler with Torque. You can edit the source in any text editor you like (notepad, if you so wish) and then you pass that code into the compiler to make it into your game engine.
This means you have total control, you could make any game you can imagine. Think of it like a PHP script with pre-coded auth functions (for example). You still have to write your website, but you can use those pre-written functions to speed things along, and if they're not quite right for your site, you can alter them.
Personally, I wouldn't recommend you buy Torque, I think you'd be out of your depth. PHP to c++ is a big leap, especially when you don't fully understand the concepts behind a game engine in the first place.

First, you can download Realm Wars for a demonstration of Torque. Second, if you're not a developer or part a team that includes developers, I'd save my $100 if I were you.
Edited because I can't spell or reqad today.
