Quark For V12 ?

Have been talking to Decker over at www.planetquake.com/quark
For those of you who don't know, Quark is the Quake army knife (originally) It is a simple to use (but powerfull) level creation program. It supports all quake1 , 2 and 3, halflife as well as engines like crystal space3d and kingpin.

I was asking about the ability to create quark maps and use them in V12.
What I didnt realise is that Quark .map files are almost the same as worldcraft .map files.
If you use quark ( I tried version 6.33) all you need to do is set it up for quake3 maps.I had no worries whacking up a little test level and saving it out to worldcraft. It seemed to convert with morian fine as well.

So, Those of you who dont like Worldcraft (pick me!) may want to try this beauty out.
You will need to also download the mini-python pack install before running Quark.

Someoene could make a addon for quark. Altough i dont think there would be much to set up (no entitys , texture links,....)
Here's a tutorial for making an addon for Quark, but I'm sure they will soon have one made for Tribes2 and then everyone can use that one.

If worse comes to worse, you can make your map in Quark, export to .map, load it in WC to make sure everything is still correct (texture alignment/complex brushes/etc), save, then import to V12.

I'm not sure what the texture situation is yet. Typically Quake games (and their associated editors) use 8bit palettized textures WAD files, whereas Tribes uses full 32-bit formats with the option of various compression techniques.

I'll have to try this one out... looking at the feature list Quark supports negative brush. Very cool :) The original Tribes 1 editor supported negative brushes, but WorldCraft does not (one of my biggest complaints about it). If there are any minor map differences, it probably won't be hard to adjust map2dif (the v12 morian tool) to handle them.

Yeah negative brushes are a very cool feature.
I found Quark alot easier to use coming from using 3dsmax. Its a simple layout with simple controls and can be quite powerfull when needed.
theres full source code for it and addon data if anyone wants to write a complete Tribes2 addon.
I would much rather use Quark (or Q3radiant) then Worldcraft.
