Modifying Alpha levels for a GUI

Alright, so I'm trying to get this .png to regularly be invisible, but have the opacity of it be increased or decreased in a function.
Now, whole problem is that I can't seem to modify the fillcolor of a GuiBitmapCtrl, or at least that's where I think the issue lies. I've been reading around and people keep talking about modifying some .cc file which I can't seem to find anywhere, or the engine source code.
Anyone have any tips?
edit: I should note that I'm using it as a gui since I have a camera zooming in and out, and I'd like this image to be on top of all layers and always remain relative to the screen.
