Idea for New Game

Hi folks, I just recently purchased the sdk and I am very happy with it...it is totally awsome. Anyway, I am working on my first game that will be a multiplayer and single player action game and I just came up with an idea for my game that I think would be very cool. I would like to allowing the users the ability to create their own weapons in-game. What I would like to do is allow a user to walk up to maybe a weapon station which would activate a trigger that would bring up a weapons gui screen...from there the user could create their own weapon such as the physical shape of the weapon (meaning...different skins) as well as the characteristics of the weapon too. I was also thinking of implimenting a credit system where a player would start off with maybe 100 credits and with every kill gain more credits so he can build better and more powerful weapons.

The problem is that I am not sure how to implement this and was wondering if anyone here might know of a way or maybe someone else has already done this. If anyone here has any ideas of how I might do this stuff then let me know and I am sure that others would find this information usefull to. If anyone has any comments about this I would also like to hear from them too. Anyway, sorry for the somewhat long post and I will talk to ya later.

There are so many variables that you can add to make this complete for example

Splash damage weapons (grenades & bombs)
Homing (laser guided/map guided)
Beam/laser
Bullets
Missiles
and no doubt more types (others will be able to suggest more)

With each weapon having a lot of different characteristics such as for a missile

Flight style, guiding style, exhaust effects, color scheme, spin rate.

It might be easier to develop a technology tree that can be customised, ie you can buy a weapon and alter some simple options (such as colors and damage/radius)

It is a good idea and should be entertaining.

Make sure that players can save favorite weapons and reload them if they want.

Thanks Stephen for your reply and giving me some ideas on how I might approach this. I think having customizable weapons and maybe even vehicles would be great for a game and something you really don't see a whole lot of.

If anyone else has any ideas I would love to hear it.

Thanks,
