Plan for Carles Carbonell

This is the "Ilenia's Dream" project.
It's just my first attempt to make a game. I'm not a coder, and i'm only one man. It's not important if i really finish that game. My first intention is *only* to learn how to develop a game, and get some fun on the way.
I choosed Torque, because it's a solid game engine, and don't needs low level programming. Their graphic features are so hard, and runs very well on many graphic cards. In adition, it is multiplatform, a great feature for me, a Mac/PC owner.
The game will be an adventure/RPG for one player.
It's adventure, because it will be based on a deep script/history. It will not have persistent worlds, multiplayer and/or realtime combats. It will have just one path to follow, and the player must discover and find any pre-placedthing to advance in game. It will have dungeons (interiors such caves, castles, small cities, palaces), some exteriors, and final bosses.
The combats will be turn-based. Mainly, the combats rules will be divided in 4 stages. The first, will have only spell attacks. In the second, will be added force attacks. The third, added intelligence attacks. The fourth will be just the final game, and i not decided wich kind of attacks will be added.
The story is based on Ilenia, a girl. The entire game happens on Ilenia's dreams. Another girl (i temporally call it Pharma) joins Ilenia's team in game. Many second heroes will be added on Ilenia's team (20 characters), and can be used in combats; some of these heroes (well, not really heroes, persons that jumped from their dreams to Ilenia's dream) will be joined automatically, but others must be obtained in secondary missions. Maybe, i will allow to use any hero ingame (not only combats); in thjis case, i will place conditions where some hero must be used to advance in game.
The main enemy will be another human character. It will have power to corrupt anything. In fact, this enemy will represent corruption itself.
The game-ending will be a big surprise. Mi intention is: the gamer will thing this is just another fancy-RPG with good persons against "another fool who wants to rule the world". The game happens on dreams, and the reallity will be another, only discovered at game's ending.
Planed game's completion game: 30-40 hours, 5-6 more to obtain secondary heroes. Maybe it will be less hours. I like RPGs, but i don't like to play an excessively repetitive game. I prefer an adventure with some RPG aspects, not a deep RPG with many variables.
The graphic aspect will not be photoreallistic or excessivelly childrish. I like Rare's Kameo or Ubi Soft's Beyond Good & Evil lookings. The speaking animals must be avoided :D.
Planning:
- Making concept arts.
- Make first on game-arts, and decide game's aspect.
- Make prototipe. Scripts to control game's flow. Guis for main menu, game's menu, loading screens. Scrpits to control characters and their statiscs. Scripts to control combats. Scripts to load/save any game statistic ans savegames.
- Tests.
- Infrastucture and Guis refinement.
- First level creation. With 2 exteriors, 1 dungeon, 2 final bosses, 1 hero, 1 aditional hero obtained as secondary mission.
- Tests for game's infrastucture.
- Infrastucture and Guis refinement. Yes, again, but it will be the final game's gameplay and aspect.
- Game content creation.
At this point, i'm just released first concept arts. I'm also looking for diferent tools to use. The game editors will the the Torque editors, and Torque script. The main ganme's infrastucture will be the "starter.fps", with some of the Torque's community aditions. The aditional infrastucture will be added with scipts and guis.

The game will be freeware. Well, i like to make it open source, but i don't know Garage Game's so deeply at this point. I will decide it on the way.
If there's someone interested in this project, let me know. I'm making hard searches on Torque's forums and resources; but i will apreciate any help on coding. Any other help will be apreciated, specially musicians, sound technicians and animators.
If there's another interesting project like this (or better :)), and you wish my collaboration, let me know. I'm just learning how to make a game, and i can leave my project to another... if it likes me, of course. I'm a graphic designer, and a casual illustrator. I have more experiencie making Guis and icons. See my profile and look for my website, to see some of my works.

Get Ken's book. Trust me on this, it will lower the frustration factor a *lot*. It takes you through each phase of game development with Torque.
