Plan for Vince Gee

It's been a while since I posted a plan, and I would like to say that it's because I'm buried in work, and I am, but I just haven't been able to force myself to sit down and code of late. I guess every programmer gets this where their enthusasim drops for a bit. I'm still excited about the RPGCore system, and it's getting much closer to completion but I am finding it difficult to force myself to code...
I can always blame it on the summer I guess.. it's always harder to do things when it's nice outside, but I don't think it's that either. I guess I need someone to yell at me to finish it :) lol, I think it's harder working for yourself then it is for someone else.
It's hard to build a sense of urgency when you know that it doesn't really matter.
Well for an update, I've finished the inventory managers as well as the player manager (as a gui in the game) I'm down to just item effects and datablocks. You would think that since I'm this close it would be easy...
Is it me or does it get more difficult the closer you get to the finish line... endurance race anyone?

Find something you really want to have or really want to do.. For example.. eating dinner.
Then tell yourself that you can have it after you've done 2 hours of work. or 1 hour of work... and not sitting at your computer chatting... Actual work. 1 hour of actual work.
Schedule 1 or 2 of these a day (if your part itme) or 3 - 10 of these if your full time...
Don't give in. Don't give yourself the reward until you finish...
One other thing too. You may find that after the hour or 2 hours you are on a roll and don't want to stop... That is a good tihng, don't stop until your ready. You may even forget about the reward and just keep going..
Good luck to you.

You will do it AND LIKE IT!
If it's just non-obligatory things getting in the way of coding, then my advice is the same as the wise Unk's.
If it is work, school, or other obligations, do not beat yourself up over it. Working on a game or game component is not as important as real life. Do what you've got to do.

There is a good book on screenwriting I read a while ago... I think it is called the 'New Screenwriters Workshop'. Good stuff on overall screenwriting method.
Anyway... one of the take-aways I got from the book is that when working on your own projects it is really easy to lose your drive. There always seems to be a reason not to do the work... not enough time... not enough money... not inspired right now... if only I had THIS then maybe... etc, etc. The problem is that if you start giving in to those voices you are never going to get anything done. You'll just sit around wishing it was like 'whatever' and the dream won't come to fruition. Only one thing brings stuff into being and thats actually creating it. =P
More or less the guy calls BS on the whole writers block/non-inspiration thing. You just have to push through it. Dedicate X amount of time per day/week to your work and stick to that schedule even if it is only a half-hour to an hour. Eventually the project will get done.
Of course screenwriting doesn't totally apply to game development but the method holds true I think.
I know this could be taken sort of harsh from a complete stranger but it sounded like you needed a kick in the rear so there you go. I expect you to return the favor if needed. =)
