Plan for Josh Ritter

CONTINUED from a previous .plan
The next time I post a plan, we'll be at our Open Alpha milestone!!!!! Please email lara@prairiegames.com if you are interested in testing the game...
We've added a whole ton of cool stuff in the last bit... some highlights:
+ 2 hours of original score by Ronald van Deurzen!!!!
+ Resizeable, zoomable, fully 3d map with npc, monster, and player tracking!!!
+ Pets can now be equipped with weapons and armor!!! If a pet dies, the items may be looted off the
pet's corpse. To equip your pet, double click the pet with an item in your cursor, then within three
seconds, double click again... this is to avoid accidentally giving items to your pet.
+ Items can now have spell like effects attached to them. Melee strike and passive spell like effects are currently hooked up. We'll add effects for when a character is struck and item uses soon.
+ Items can now grant their wearer haste. Haste items do not stack, the best haste item worn will be used in calculations.
*** SNIP ****
Further patch information is available: HERE
Here's a screenshot of the 3d realtime map:

The map is based on your character's tracking skill... and it can be zoomed in further than the screenshot (which alleviates the cluttered names).
Here's a video of it in action (featuring music from the 2 hour score by Ronald van Deurzen):

I have to say that's a wonderful addition, especially for me who always get lost. =)

The amount of effort you must have put into this game is truly awe inspiring.

The fact the game has a worthwhile map already elevates it above the vast majority of MMO's (skill check to find a compass direction WTF?).The amount of effort you must have put into this game is truly awe inspiring.

I've sent an email with a request to test :]
Is the map a captured image of the area or a live camera?
I ask because of the shadowing on the buildings. How do you deal with the night time/ day time changing in relation to the map? How does weather effect the map?
I haven't seen the movie yet (I'm at work shhhh) so maybe my questions are answered in it...
Edit: ok I watched it. It's a live camera :D

Quite an update Josh. The map and pet were very impressive. I wish other games would incorporate a map that good. It looks like you are just using a camera in the sky (hence the fog out) but it still works very well. Keep up the good work.

The fog has been removed and the map is now scrollable with the mouse wheel :)-Josh Ritter

I personally liked the fogout, let you know that you were in the clouds. Anyway, this is simply stunning. Amazing use of Torque. Small suggestion: you should put things like barrels in the streets next to buildings and a few lanterns here and there to give a few buildings more personality. At the moment, its hard to see much difference in them. Looks amazing, really. I applied for Alpha and would love to get on board and help in any way possible. Still somewhat new to Torque, so any advice or tips that you have for me would be great. What I see in MoM has alot of what I would like to put in my own game.

When I first read this I thought to myself WTF ? ... then I thought about it some more... Wooden barrels might look ok next to a tavern... but who would be stupid enough to leave good ale outdoors to be stolen....
I don't think barrels are a good idea... If you're going to do that you might as well throw in some wooden shipping crates as well.
