Where in the World are GG'ers from?

Ever wonder where all the people you chat with on the forums are from? I do ...so I compiled a little world map of GarageGames.com visitors for May and placed it at the bottom of the Community page. I will try to remember to update it each month just for fun.

This is very cool.

Is it done by ISP? I am curious about my country stats (like everyone else I guess) with 4 dots and 3 of them being in rather remote areas. Were the dots placed manually or by a script/program?

Hmm... maybe incorporate geoblogging somehow? Just Google "geoblogging" and check out the first few items.

If you don't see a dot in your location, it's probably because there aren't enough people visiting from there for it to show up on the map. Just a guess. This is fun to look at in any case. Really, stepping back and looking at it, how cool is it to have so many people from literally all over the world here, interested in making games, and hopefully in helping each other do it. So neat. :)

Greets ... the dots in South Africa need to drop by around 2mm as there current locations put the lower dot on our west coast ... a desert like region with prob no internet (ROFL)... and the other dot at the border of Botswana ... It prob saposed to be in Johanesburg/Pretoria ...

n e ways ... looks good ... would be kewl if one could get one of those dynamic flash thingies and we can put our own dots on ...

Cheers

Cool. I feel a bit lonely here in Idaho, though.

The South African map dot is a funky one that I've seen for a long time on a bunch of different traffic maps on other sites as well... Most of Cape Town and Port Elizabeth traffic somehow gets posted on the west coast.

I guess I'm in that big blob over lake ontario. It would be neat to see a map of TGE/TSE/T2D owners. Afterall everyone who has purchased the engines has entered their location in their profile (or you could use their billing address :)

Of the four major hotbeds of activity, WNY seems to be a popular one. Maybe its not so lonely in western NY.

Whoa I am surprised there are that many people from Hawaii visiting this site to actually produce a dot. Hi guys :).

To be honest I do not know exactly how our tracking service computes the dots but if it is like other services I use the IP adress to location resolution is not an exact science. But it is 99.9% accurate for the country origin and 70-80% accurate for the region.

I have thought about generating one of these myself that could show just TGE vs General visitors, etc., but have not had the spare time. This chart will do for now.

Wow, NW FL is crowded. Could be lower Alabama as well, since the resolution is so low.

Hey Rick, I've seen something like this done before in PHP, IIRC the webmaster said he used GeoIP from MaxMind and ImageMagick.

Might be worth looking into :)

I like the map. It took me a minute or two to figure out what it was at first. It was the middle of the night and I was so tired. I kept thinking Yahoo Map and clicking to zoom in. :) Click... why can't I zoom in on Seattle? Click... this map doesn't work. Click... why is there a stupid little pop up image bar at the top left of the map everytime I put my mouse over it? Click... oh. I see now. :P

You all need some more russians in here. Looking pretty sparse in Northern Europe
