Basic Bob : Island of Misfits

Basic Bob: Island of Misfits is an action/adventure game featuring Basic Bob, a 3D stickman fighting to rid the misfit islands of bumbles.

The main focus of the game is humour. The story line, the enemies, the main character... Everything has been designed to make the player laugh.

Bumbles are small furry creatures that are invading the islands.

Here's a pic of the first prototype. It is 65 bumbles (Jill is the placeholder)... They are all focused around my dead body. I didn't last very long...

Each island is inhabited by a different race of misfits. Creatures banished to the islands because they don't belong in the "real" world.

Here are a couple to get ya goin:

Development of BB: IOM has been going on for a month now. I've coded almost everything... I have to start refining some things. The major issue is that I don't have an artist. So it's quite difficult to see the progress.

For example: I have coded 9 different types of bumbles... but they all look like this:

I've finished all the core logic, but I don't have any bridges to set up zone transitions or final game logic...

The weapons are almost finished (give me a week) . Targeting is set up and tuned. The items are pretty much done (I used placeholders)...

Before I start refining everything it would be really nice to have an artist on board. I need someone who is ambitious. I put at least 60 hours a week into coding around my dayjob and social life. Though I don't expect anyone else to put in that much time, it would be really nice to have someone who is serious about completing a project to partner up with. I want to take this to IGC and get it commercially published under a tight development schedule.

If you want to partner up with me then drop me an email or post here. I have a completed asset schedule for each level. You would be responsible for keeping me updated and producing final art at a steady pace.

I would also, potentially, be interested in a 2D artist to do textures and possibly touch up skins (or create new ones)

So I leave you with these concept drawings / models:

So how does bob get rid of the bumbles? Im guessing from your basic bob pic that its more action based than anything else.

@Adam - Bob has a plethora of humorous weapon that he uses to get rid of them.. It is a fast paced, humorous adventure game..

It's tough to make something funny in a game when it happens over and over again. On the other hand, I never got tired of that absurd scream from the kamikazi bomb-head guys in Serious Sam. Good luck with your project!

How does the frame rate hold up with 65 or so sprites on screen?
Furry bumbles probably want alpha channel fur... That could be bad, no?
I can model low poly well. I'm just not sure about performance issues with textures and whatnots.

@Jeff... I had 65 dts models (bravetrees Jill) at 3500 polys... The frame rate dropped to about 5...

With 35 * 800 poly models, the frame rate drops slightly (a little bit noticebly) but it still holds up very well.

What is a bumble? and why are they bad? just an arbitrary baddie menace to the misfits?
