Plan for Gary "ChunkyKs" Briggs

Well, I got JuggleMaster working properly. It's nothing like release-ready, but I got it juggling on-screen just fine, so I'm happy for right now.

In other news, I've been experimenting with making an actual game that you can play [how scary is that!]. And it's turning into not one, but a series of games.

Basic premise involves a dual analog stick, with triggers. I'm using My Saitek P880, which is magically working perfectly with T2D and linux. You have two hands on screen, and you can move them about, one hand with each stick. The triggers mean grab, or drop, or hold-to-grab-and-let-go-to-drop, or something else I've not thought of yet.

Currently, the game is this:
icculus.org/~chunky/stuff/jmts/hands.pngThings drop from the top of the screen, you move a hand under it to catch it, then move the hand back over the basket and drop it with the trigger. Things going into the basket nets you points. Beware the programmer art and crappy webcam. No releases yet.

This is actually my first stop on the way to the first actual game I have in mind, which is... [if you can imagine it...] a juggling simulator. All you have to do is move a hand under a ball to catch it, then pull the trigger to throw it. Throwing the ball sends it in the rough direction of where it's meant to be caught [and by "rough", I mean "with some randomised variation"].

Difficulties in it vary based on things such as number of balls and speed of their travel.
"Where it's meant to be caught" can vary, too, to create patterns like Mill's Mess or a Windmill.

At least, that's the current plan. I suspect it will change as I actually implement more of it, but to me that's the joy of doing this as an experiment on my spare time.

Now take the whole idea of two hands controllable on screen, and make a variety of games based on it. I like to think I've come up with something genuinely original.

PS For technical reasons, the maximum number of balls jugglemaster can show is 630. In case you're wondering, yes, 630 balls with particle streamers gives my machine a pretty serious pummelling.

Shoot, I'd settle for a gamer that can juggle 630 balls on screen :)

You should have different types of balls/spheres to juggle. That give a different feel to it. Oranges, hacky-sack, bowling balls, Bowling pins, chainsaws, flaming swords etc,. . .

Bubbles, glasses, plates, coconuts, tarantulas, hand grenades, dynamite, . . .I think you get the idea.

Two player mode with flaming chainsaws might be enjoyable.

Sounds very cool. I definetly want to see some flaming chainsaws in this.
