A Day in the Life of a GarageGames Public Relations and Marketing Guru
(Names have been altered to confuse the guilty and protect the not-so innocent.)

My alarm goes off at 6:00am. After thinking that the world is about to end because of this incessant beeping sound in my dream, I wake up suddenly and bash my head into the ceiling. A few minutes later, after recovering from almost knocking myself out, I question the reasons my wife and I entertained about getting this great studio loft apartment and setting up our bed in the loft. I slowly make my way down the 15 foot ladder while thinking that it would be a very bad thing if I fell. I make my way into the kitchen, grind some coffee beans and start the coffee maker. Now that the most important part of my morning (coffee making) is done, I head into the bathroom and prepare for the day. After eating breakfast, I pick up one of my guitars and start picking away during which I remember George from next door doesn't like music. Come to think of it, I don't think he likes anything.

Around 7:30am, I head out the door and walk less than a mile to the GarageGames International Headquarters Office Complex. I pass through security and enter the super secure compound. (Interpretation: I unlock the door.) I make my way to the marketing wing (Jay's and my office). Sit down at my desk, boot the computer up, and stare at the emails that came in last night. I head upstairs to make some more coffee so that I will be able to not just stare at the emails but actually read them.

While brewing some coffee, Ayjay and I talk about the state of the gaming universe. Effjay comes in talking about this amazing idea and Ayjay and I get excited about the possibilities. We all get our coffee and we head back to our offices. I start reading through the .plans and come across Hilpay Arlislecay motivational .plan about going to IndieGamesCon. I pull up the IndieGamesCon website and post stories by Hilpay Arlislecay and Attmay Airfaxfay. After posting that new section, Ickray shows me a really cool way to markup pictures on the site. I also see that I need to finish up on the FAQ section of IndieGamesCon.com. I head off in search for answers about how to describe a Game-in-a-Day and find myself on the gameinaday.com website. I look through their FAQs and find myself looking at a COW and realizing that I have been scarred for life. I quickly finish the rest of the FAQs and realize that I have really started to lose it.

I pull up my To-Do List program and watch the every-growing list populate the screen. I do some further work on several press releases that are on the horizons. My eyes look up when I get pinged from Ickray telling me that he has finished setting up everything for GISH. What happens next is nothing short of amazing, my Marketing and Public Relations instincts kick in and I move into an autopilot mode of "Game Launch". The press release I've been working on for a while finally goes out to our press list and the "Play Games" page is rotated (also the Front page) to make room for GISH. (If you haven't checked the game out, you won't want to miss this gelatinously addictive game.) Now that the game has launched, Ayjay and I head down to the 5th Street Market for lunch. When we arrive there we see everyone from work, (both GarageGames and BraveTree), sitting around the tables eating lunch.

After lunch, I spend some time working with our marketing intern, Rineay, on the next GarageGamer Newsletter. This edition is also the last newsletter that Rineay will be working on. She took a full-time job out of Eugene, so she'll be leaving us this week. After doing some editing and copy work, we set the newsletter aside to be mailed out later in the week. During this time, there were a bunch of responses about the GISH press release. So, we had to spend some time responding and getting different groups to review the game. After closing out my mail, I pulled up my list of Marketing Briefs that I've been working on and continue to craft 25/50/100 snippets for use in future projects.

Deep in concentration, I get pinged by Enbay Arneygay, who has developed the first GISH action figure and wants me to post the photos. I shake my head and head back to work. A little while later, I look up from my work and see that it is already 6:30pm, so I close out my work and pack up to walk home. My wife and I prepare a nice little Thai satay rice dish for dinner and then take a walk through Eugene. Another day comes to a close and I remind myself that there's still so much I have to do tomorrow. And as I fall asleep, I rub my head and remind myself not to hit my head in to morning on the ceiling.

Remember, names have been changed to confuse the guilty and protect the not-so-innocence. If you have having trouble with the names...Just head over to Google.

PS..Don't forget...tomorrow is the last day to get the early registration price for IndieGamesCon. After that, the price is going up.

heheh great .plan. :)

I had a loft studio in the same apartment building a few years ago, and put my bed in the loft too. I swear I'm two inches shorter today than I was before I moved in. Hopefully you're a faster learner than me though.

Sleeping up there is worth it though. It's comforting to know that if a burglar breaks in, he'll mistakenly think the place is empty, providing you the opportunity to sneak attack and pounce from above like a super-ninja. Also, the ladders are perfectly designed for busting out action-star quick-slides down the sides.

I had no idea Erin was gone, the first floor is like a different world completely from the second.

How'd you get your bed up a 15 foot ladder?

Now that I think about it, I've never seen Brad and Superman together at the same time... hmmmm.

from said IGC 2004 F.A.Q:

Question 9: Are there going to be rock stars I know playing at IndieJam?

Answer 9: Yes. (You all know them. You all love them. We just can't mention their names to protect the innocent.)

...to protect the innocents' ears you mean

Very cute and down to earth read... Thanks... But I am still just trying to google my way into the Bloody Gish game since it doesn't seem to like my unlock code (fickle blob of tar!!!)

Cheers,
